It was a mission impossible type thing and the movie was somewhat constructed in a mission impossible type way, through the lens of the original top gun.

Which makes sense considering it was originally conceived during the making of one of the Mission Impossible movies and was largely written by one of the Mission Impossible writers.

Saw it today and loved it. I’m a chick and the romance parts were a little corny, but went by quickly. The flight scenes were awesome. I’ve never seen the original and this one was so easy to follow.

As soon as I saw Hangman all I could think of was Chad Radwell from Scream Queens

Just finally saw it last night and I will say my AMERIBONER has lasted longer than 6 hours and I might need to call a doctor! That movie was perfect for what it was trying to do.

You could validly shred this movie with technical criticisms and assess it as mediocre IF you are a bloodless robot. If you are a human and an AMERICAN this is a brilliant movie watching experience and I can't wait to go see it again. fricking perfection

Also agree with this unpopular opinion.

Saw this last weekend with my wife. Mav says "talk to me goose" twice in the movie. When Rooster says "talk to me dad" my wife laughed out loud and said, "I'm out". She then left and went to the arcade. I finished the movie, but the entire ending of the movie was ridiculous.

I agree, it did not have the heart of the original, which I absolutely love. I didn't really care about any of the other pilots either. They were very one dimensional. Basically could have been anyone in those roles.

They wasted a lot of time on stupid stuff like Maverick showing up at the diner after crashing at Mach 10, the sailing scene, the weird showing up in dress whites at the bar scene.

Wish they would have had more dialogue and character development in the actual briefing scenes at Top Gun.

I loved the jet footage, but I didn't really care for the movie at all.

The jet scenes and nostalgia are the only reason this movie isn’t a 4/10.

I agree Mav saying it twice was odd, but come on, man...how can you not like the "talk to me, dad" part? IMO that part was great and was the right amount of feels for a movie like this.

If Mav hadn't already said it twice, it wouldn't have been that comical for Rooster to say it. But for him to repeat the same exact phrase in the same exact situation was freaking retarded and some lazy arse writing.

I saw the movie today. I thought it was just as good as the original. A worthy sequel that captured the spirit of the original while still telling a new tale.

The flight scenes were the best I've ever seen. I felt like I was up there with them. I didn't feel 10 G's, but I caught myself mirroring their strained faces duing those tense scenes.

They really were. They must have put cruise in a g simulator and shopped his face over an actual pilot pulling actual maneuvers. I'd like to know how they got that so realistic looking.

This right here as so many movie sequels fail to actually continue the original story. They knocked the sequel out of the park.

The only CGI was the missle action. Camera shots in the cockpit or shots of the planes making aerial & mountian maneuvers were all done by real top gun & blue angel pilots with the actors sitting behind the pilots & pretending to be flying solo in the planes. The G-forces were real. Tom said they reached 7.5 G's.

A. I don’t believe any of this actually happened

B. If true, your wife sounds like a miserable wench. And what grown woman goes to the arcade during a movie in which you paid for?

Was anyone waiting for Maverick to accidentally call Rooster Goose when they were flying together? Kinda like in Order of the Phoenix when Sirius is fighting alongside Harry and accidentally calls him James (his Dad).

2 seater F-18. There are a couple in the fleet. Blue Angels #7 is one or used to be.

The F/A-18B Hornet and the F/A-18D and F Super Hornets are two seater jets.
