The Strangers

It's not the most gruesome, it's not the most violent.. it just felt realistic because of how it happened.

Jack Black in The Jackal is pretty disturbing.

There’s a movie called Backcountry with fine arse Missy Peregrym where her boyfriend gets eaten by a bear in probably the most realistic way something like that would happen. It was unsettling.

Just watched the scene. Wow. The deaths of Timothy Treadwell and Amie Huguenard were probably a lot like that.

The murder by the lake in Zodiac.

The first time I watched it I made the mistake of getting completely, uncomfortably high, and had a bit of a panic attack at that scene. That memory is still there whenever I rewatch it.

The Zodiac and Jaws are my two because they looked like LiveLeak videos. Both were far too realistic and Robert Shaw's screaming in Jaws with that final ehhhh before the shark clamps down and he gurgles blood makes my skin crawl every time

Ignoring the traditional horror/torture-porn kinda movies...

The assistant in Jurassic World got completely destroyed. Only death in any of those movies that really haunted me (including Eddie in LW).

Anyone remember the storm scene in Mission to Mars? The one dude get caught in it and gets spun around so fast that his face is getting pulled off of his head before his whole body just rips apart. It's brief but explicit. I saw it from the third row in theaters and have never really been able to shake it. That was a PG movie too.

The curbing in American History X... the teeth rattling on the cement. My gawd.

Tong Po beating Brian to death in Kickboxer 2 freaked me the hell out as a kid. It’s still pretty gruesome to watch.

I was a kid, but Captain Terrell vaporizing himself in Star Trek 2 freaked me out a lot more than it should have.

Nothing I have ever seen in any movie comes close to this.

Every time I rewatch SPR I fast forward through that scene.

Saw that with my brother and nephew in the theatre. That was the first thing we talked about afterwards. Why did they go so overboard on killing the assistant? She must have pissed off some writer or director.

I don't remember that one, but I remember Tim Robbins taking his helmet off in space and dying. That was one that stuck with me.

The stepdad in 2012 getting crushed and torn by grinding gears. Pretty sure the character in no way deserved that.
