Is it crazy how much Avatar movies make, and nobody talks about them?

I was thinking about the 2nd one.
Made a butt load of cash
Memory holed.
The 1st one too, to a lesser extent.
Am I wrong?
Not a criticism of the movie, just a wierd thing.

They’re like Minecraft or Jurassic Park, everybody takes their kids and barely pays attention to the movies so there’s nothing to talk about. They’re not any good so adults don’t talk about them.

I can't understand why Avatar makes so much money at all. I don't think I ever will. I do agree with you that it seems like no one really talks about them.

I thought the 1st one was cheesy and obviously derivative, but decent enough.

Yea, the 1st one was a landmark in special effects and at least had the illusion of stakes.

ALWAYS been the crazy part of Avatar to me.
No one talks about them. No one thinks about them. They disappear from memory instantly. They hold zero place in the cultural zeitgeist.
Yet they make billions and there are going to be 5 of them.

It's just a cool experience watching it in 3D. After that, you just forget about it because watching it at home will never compare to watching it on the big screen.

I think this is it

I avtually think about this often
They are some of the top grossing movies of all time and then boom fall out of culture.
it’s because they’re visually stunning movies that have weak plots.

Similar to Gravity. watch it in IMAX but you'll never be able to recreate the experience at home

Nobody ever mentions as well that the second one was the exact same story as the first, but just in the water. Same villain and given the ending, is going to be the same villain in the third. Only thing I remember from the second is leaving thinking why tf won't they kill this villain.

It is very interesting to think about. Previous top grossers such as Star Wars, E.T., and Titanic all had a MASSIVE impact on the culture at the time they were released. Avatar came and went like a fart in the wind.

First film was a benchmark for high definition sets, amazing palette of colors and lighting.

I mean, it is though.
They probably hold the title as the most vacuous film ever made. It's pure eye candy, and nothing more.
If it's not stirring emotions, not speaking to something bigger, and really feeling "constructed," which they do, people will see the experience and take nothing from it.
It's like taking a picture at the Grand Canyon, but not hiking any part of it.
Everyone sayone "the first one was ok" or "it was decent enough," yet having the exact same feeling - No, it's not that good.

Never saw the second one. Most people who see these are smooth brains who are just attracted to shiny things or they are parents trying to distract their children for a few hours
Unfortunately, there are alot of these people. Hence the success.

I saw the first movie, enjoyed it, never saw it again, don't have any interest in seeing any of the others. It's weird, I can't explain it, just not interested.

I remember reading reviews for the second one and seeing all these two thumbs up reviews essentially saying "Beautiful to look at, it's amazing, story kind of sucks, but it's a technical achievement." I'm sure some people like going to a movie because it's easy on the eyes, but I'm not one of those people. Yes, cinematography is an important element, but I am uninterested in watching a movie based on that alone. The story has to interest me, and I just have no interest in the fate of the Navi.
I saw the first one in theaters, never watched it again and haven't seen the second one.

Tried to watch the second one on an airplane. That's how much I cared.
I made it 15 min. and then just watched something i had seen a bunch of times instead. Just absolutely did not care.
Also the worst way to watch the film, not going to lie.

there are a few franchises that follow that same pattern
Furious movies
Transformers
Jurassic Park (outside the first one)
Off the top of my head
Sometimes its just cool to watch cool stuff on a big screen and become immersed in a well made fantasy world.
