I might go see it tonight. Curious about people's opinions....from those who actually saw the movie.

The biggest impediment to my watching the movie is that the gist is all there in the trailers ands ads for the movie.

I can't say for certain, but I feel like I know all the story beats and so I don't think I would get anything out of the experience.

What about it is peaking your curiosity? The trailer alone can show you the agenda it is pushing. No disrespect to Viola Davis. The woman can act. But that movie screams "i hate men and men are the devil"

new movies i'd try out before subjecting myself to that would be:

See How They Run
Bullet Train
The Invitation
Minions: Rise of Gru
DC League of Super Pets

heck, I would even go see Avatar back in theaters before going to watch The Woman King.

Let us know what you think of it, though!

What's the biggest praise it's getting? The action?

Whenever I see a movie with two sets of armies lined up against each other on a vast battlefield, I often feel PTSD flashbacks to Peter Jackson's Tolkien movies (for better or worse).

all you can do is shake your head at people that would willingly fork over money to watch something like this. to each their own i guess.

I've only seen 2 movies this year and nothing since Top Gun and want to go to a movie. Oscar Season isn't quite here yet.

I like movies with an historical setting, and Viola Davis is a really good actress. The others you listed honestly don't peak my interest.

I can deal with The Patriot-level historical inaccuracies.

And does it feature nudity? If lesbian action ensues, please elaborate. But no spoilers.

As a fan of National Geographic in my youth, I am simply asking for a friend.

Solid response. I'll be waiting for your review and, if you give it well enough praise, I will give it a try when it's on a streaming platform.

I'll take "things I have no interest in seeing regardless of the venue", for $500, Alex.

I don’t plan on going see it in theaters, but Viola Davis in that sort of role is the only thing that PIQUED my interest.

I hate to derail, but this description is just funny. Dahomey was 100 miles by 200 miles. Texas has bigger counties. Kidding, but it was smaller than West Virginia. And it was a tributory state to a more-powerful neighbor. Not much more than a protectorate.

I asked my wife if she wanted to go to show her I’m a feminist and a anti-racist but she said no and we watched Game of Thrones instead.

We’ll probably see Don’t Worry Darling this weekend but that’s more for Pugh and Pine than Wilde.

Joking aside, I’m sure it’s just as historically inaccurate as Braveheart, Gladiator, etc. I don’t have a problem with it. But I really have an irrational hate for movies that unjust rankings because of virtue signaling.

Viola Davis is a fantastic actress and I’d go see it for her.

After the actress coming out and saying "if I don't watch it I hate blacks and women", I definitely won't be seeing it.

EDITED MY COMMENT AS TO NOT GET BANNED BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE SOFT AND DON'T LIKE EDGY JOKES

I think viola Davis is a good actress, but this movie does not make me want to go to the theatre. Matter of fact, I feel like I paid my dues to the this new societal push to over elevate everything Blacks do by sitting through Black Panther at the theatre. So now we even.
