I’ll respectfully disagree.

Up has a good story involving two characters the audience can be sympathetic towards...lost in their own respective lives and finding out that there’s still things worth fighting and living for. They did a great job not forcing the Carl/Russell friendship and letting it naturally develop. The 5 minutes really sets the tone for developing an emotional attachment to Carl.

WALL-E is a very fun film, but it kind of relies on “look how cute and adorable this sad lonely robot is”. I don’t know where emotionally you are supposed to relate to any of the characters. Sure, you root for the cute little robot, but it’s not relatable. I do enjoy the social commentary in general, but it’s a side story to the main story of WALL-E.

Best win of the tournament is Wall-E knocking out Sword and the Stone, but alas, now people who only remember the first 5 minute of Up and couldn't even tell you the name of the dog, the villain, the fat kid, or any character but maybe the old man will vote against it.

Good night, Sweet Prince.

Strangely enough, Wall-E and Up are two of the very best Pixar films. Both are far better than Nemo and Toy Story, but alas, talking toys vex everyone.

Story is not the most important factor for me when it comes to animated movies. The absolute most critical thing, specific to animation, is just my pure visceral reaction to the images on screen. Memorable animation and a weak story (think Kubo and the Two Strings) trumps average animation and an average story (Up) every time.

And as great as Up was at hooking you into Carl with the 5 minute tearjerker, Wall-E hooked you into a robot with a 20 minute dialogue free into and a bunch of wheezes, beeps, and squeaks. That is an insane testament to storytelling through animation.

Agreed. I can see how an intelligent person can see Up as a better film than WALL-E. But WALL-E is just better due to the subtleties. Everyone praises the first 5 minutes of Up, but WALL-E basically keeps that up through an entire film. But those first 5 minutes are undeniably incredible and carry the rest of the film.

I just think what WALL-E as a movie had to say was fricking brilliant, and a middle finger to both the Right and Left Wing of society in how they’re both completely full of shite and are a detriment to humanity, because the human spirit is good and will rise to the occasion when allowed. It’s a brilliant piece of work that should be taught in college classrooms. It’s one of the greatest animated films of all time and I think Pixar’s greatest work to date, especially if you’re familiar with the production behind the scenes. It took like 15 years for that movie to get made and they really thought it through.

But again, I can see why someone intelligent would like Up over WALL-E. Anyone who would prefer the Sword in the Stone over Princess Mononoke or The Brave Little Toaster over Spirited Away is simply retarded or a liar. I can not see the argument for those matchups other than the person being stupid or lying having seeing those masterpieces.

Are you a vulcan? That is a serious question. Not all people like movies for the same reasons, and the objective qualities are not the only ones that exist.

I can't believe you are still whining about Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. Not everyone likes or judges movies by your peculiar standards.

If you think animation stops at how the characters look, then you're a damn moron. And I'm just going to ignore you calling UP an average story because it may be one of the worst opinions of all time.

You must have missed his posts in the GOT threads...…..

ETA: is it safe to assume Lion King thrashed Monsters Inc.? Because I really liked both and would have a hard time judging which was "better". But judging a Comedy vs. a Drama is not always easy.
