How old are you and them when they had you?

I'm 23.

Born at the very end of 1999.

Parents were 26 and 25 when they had me.

23 part makes sense.

I guess I took “closer to my parents being teenagers” a bit more literal.

Yeah, you took it a bit too literally lol.

The film came out 7 years after my mom turned 18 so I meant it was closer to my parents' era than my own.

The film came out 18 years before I turned 18 so I couldn't really relate.

That's what I was saying, 70s.

Scholars extend it to early 80s now.

Ridiculous. If you were born when Atari was already out of business, you're not Gen X.

It's hard to relate to how desperate those 18-year-olds are when you have dating apps and ubiquitous access to sexual pornography.
That's a good point.

My daughter is 18. She and all of her friends love all of those movies.

That article is biased as hell. They picked quotes from a bunch of kids who generally hate life.

Some of y’all sound as miserable as the kids being quoted. These are movies. Comedies at that. Quit taking them so seriously and just laugh. Or don’t. But quit being serious about everything and trying to read a “deeper meaning” or discern “what it say about our society”.
You fricking people are killing comedy because you nitpick every little detail and take it personally. Lighten up!

Millennials were raised by boomers. Z is raised by the first generation of helicopter parents - Gen x.

Originally, the term “helicopter parenting” signals that the parent is among the Baby Boomers (i.e. born between 1940s to 1960s), and the children are members of the Millennial generation (born between 1980s to 2000s).

I am confused by your reference since the term originated with Boomers.

I am Gen X and have seen those movies. They were alright but when I compare them to movies like Porky's or Fast Times to me they do not hold a candle.

But I have always considered the Millennial generation a lost generation. So maybe the movies reflect that as there was nothing to identify with.

Or, and this may blow your mind, comedy is situational and largely influenced by the shock of initial viewing. Comedy is generational for this reason and it's hard to appreciate comedies outside of your era (unless they're an elite film). This effect is amplified when you're dealing with a comedy targeted at you specifically that you can relate to (like a teen comedy released when you're a teen)

What fool is trying to do that? Sounds like a millennial who doesn't want to admit they are a millennial.

The cartoon

It started out really good, then the last 3 episodes of s2 become all about patriarchy and whiteness, and just all the Gen Z buzzwords.

I can't believe that flew right by my head when Atari was still putting out gaming systems into the mid 90s. I know this b/c I was one of the 150k people who bought an Atari Jaguar. That would make anyone born as late as 1996 part of Gen X.

Some of you need to wash the sand out of your vagina and not take things so personal.

And yes I understand the target audience these films are geared towards but that does not mean I can not enjoy them or find them funny. I enjoy movies from every generation and as I said they were good but not great for me.

I am sorry that one time you were at band camp you did not have the same experience
