I haven’t seen the film and I’m not a big believer man made climate change is a driving force behind what this planet does climate wise. It’s obvious McKay is a big believer so if he didn’t find a way to make fun of China (the biggest polluter on the planet) then he’s just another Hollywood hypocrite that sucks their dick for cash.

What makes you say that?

Mark Rylance played the exact same awkward character he played in Ready Player One.

I think rylance was dong a James Halliday/Anorak parody, it was pretty funny, especially the ending

It's actually the second song she's done that involved a celestial body destroying the Earth.

Finally watched. Needed to have at least 30 minutes chopped off. It was ok, nothing special or surprising from a political slant point of view. Thought Madam President with the tramp stamp was slightly amusing. Enjoyed Chalamet's character probably the most. Pretty much forgettable movie.

As a movie I thought it was pretty good especially after perusing this thread I expected a leftist unfunny circle jerk per usual. As a social commentary it’s fricking terrible.

Saw some redditors asking "if anyone would change their fossil fuel behavior based on this movie". What behavior should we ordinary peons change, exactly? Most people I know already try to conserve gas and electricity because it's expensive. I'm not sure what you think ordinary pepole can do. They say stupid shite like "don't eat meat" or "give up this" and "give up that" and it amounts to "suffer without any climate control in your house, walk everywhere and drink your soylent green". Every single star in this movie burns more carbon in a week than anyone I know does in a year.

I kept trying to figure out what the "angle" was. Was it about Covid? Or global warming? Or something else?

It had its moments but the whole "don't look up" thing was very liberal pandering--just can't tell if it was pointed to climate change or covid deniers.

One take I’m seeing a good bit can be broken down to:

The bad parts were parts making fun of my beliefs, but the good parts were making fun of the other side.

It was funny to me. I was entertained. My life wasn’t changed by it, but it passed the time well.

It's a new version of idiocracy.

It points out the most ridiculous behaviors of our current spectrum. It laughs at the politics, the social media, the science, the price of chips and water... on both sides.

It's definitely slanted, but you are a moron if you get offended.

Just be a good person and realize that fat Leo is sexy and mullet jennifer Lawrence is sexy and fake teeth cate Blanchett is sexy and misfits jacket wearing Timothy Chalmette is also sexy..

See.. easy.

Just be sexy.

It's about climate change. He wrote this film well before we got hit with Covid

Disagree with this take. Other than Jonah Hill, the jokes just didn't land regardless of the political slant.

My favorite joke of the movie was Jennifer Lawrence's constant retelling of the story of the general charging them for the snacks

Watching this one later. Saw this headline earlier that must piss off those involved in the film

I’m expecting a funny movie that accurately portrays the stupidity of the average person.

I was sort of shocked they lampooned tech billionaires collecting data on everyone and thinking they are saviors like they did. They wrapped up Zuck, Elon, and Gates all into one person.

I thought it was funny, and unintentionally ironic. I know it's supposed to be about 'climate change', but it's equally apt as a study of how the 'elites' have handled the coronavirus pandemic. If it's meant to be a lampoon of conservatives, the left owns all the institutions in this country. They are the majority of the 'elite' and they are completely isolated from normal people.

Crap movie. Piss poor effort to mask anti-conservatism with minimal shots at some democrats (kind of SNL vibe). Look over here while we go deeper into political ideology so the idiots think it’s a great middle of the line movie. Also, the Clinton photo is clearly not only an attempt to play hide the ball, but it is also a clear reference to Trump, not Hillary. Anyone who thinks otherwise lacks a brain.

LINK

Besides all of that, the movie just sucked. Fell asleep twice. Then quit watching.

I’m an ardent anti progressive poliboard tard but I just don’t see this movie as an all out attack on conservatives. It’s pretty middle of the road if anything slanting to attacking the left although probably unintentionally. Now whether it’s a good movie or not is a different conversation.
