We're not seeing Leo's regular cruising weight in this movie.

Actually I’d argue this is the first movie that we are seeing his regular cruising weight or what his regular cruising weight would be if he didn’t have a 100 million dollar movie every other 6 months in development

He idolizes Jack Nicholson, and is kind of turning into him as he gets older

Not fat really but I can see him really putting on the pounds when he hits 50-60

that seemed like his normal weight to me

maybe he gained 10 lbs or so, but Leo is more often fat these days than he is skinny

It's about Covid, not climate change. The government is again playing both sides.Elected officials all get vaccinated while convincing the gullible they should voice their rights.Unvaccinated will continue to die right up to the day they cast their votes for political candidates allowing them to sentence themselves to death, while being wrapped in the Constitution.

It’s weird that they’re stuck on DiCaprio being “sexy”. Like trying to force it like they did with Barrymore and others. Knowing damn well if he wasn’t famous and people saw him in public, they wouldn’t look twice.

I thought with him being overweight and having that nasty beard the joke is that he was in no way sexy but because he had become a media darling everybody was pretending he was. Like the media and Hollywood trying to turn little Fauci into a rockstar. I even remember seeing some shite saying Michael Avenatti was "sexy"

Yes, that’s exactly the joke.

I can see that being another kind of under the surface joke or even an incidental one but he gets hit on by Cate Blanche the first time he was on TV when Jennifer Lawrence melts down and he’s just the normal forgettable science guest to everyone. He doesn’t become the focus of the media spotlight until the government admits that the whole thing is real

So I think the joke was intended simply to poke fun of the biggest actor in Hollywood and a guy whose been the main crush of a majority of his generation for 20 plus years and has been famous since he was like 10 is playing a pudgy science teacher from the mid west who gets pushed into the spotlight and has no idea how to handle it

I enjoyed the first 40% of the movie. Absurd quirky humor was right up my alley. After they aborted the 1st mission the movie took a big nosedive after that. Pacing went to shite. Funny moments dried up and went away. 2nd half was a miserable pile of poo. The editor should have chopped off 50 minutes of that movie.

I stayed with it, ultimately bc it's a disaster movie like Deep Impact and wanted to see their take on the doomsday scenario.

I was really intrigued that a direct hit was supposed to cause "mile-high tsunamis that would cover the world". I was disappointed bc not only was the event reduced to quick-multi-shot edits, but the aftermath devasted landscape was dry as a bone.

The whole “dad bod” movement came about because Leo fattened up in his off time. It’s not because of a role.

Dark comedies are apparently difficult to pull off, just not many of them work well. Add to that getting the chemistry right in a movie with a wide range of talented actors seems hit or miss as well. I didn't hate it nor did I love it. It seemed to fall awkwardly between massively absurd and wholly believable but still funny.

This pretty much sums up my opinion.

There’s something about Adam McKay’s style that is just.. awkward to me. Everything I’ve seen from him that didn’t involve Will Ferrell has had this weird, somewhat uncomfortable tone.

If you think about:
- Don’t Look Up
- The Big Short
- Vice
- Succession
There’s definitely a common thread that starts to reveal something about his style. It’s way different than the stuff he did with Ferrell, which makes me think Will Ferrell was the primary creative mind behind those other projects (shocker, I know).

I enjoyed The Big Short and I love Succession but it’s hard to say whether that’s because of McKay’s style or in spite of it.

No, its about Hollywood once again fellating themselves for being so smart, and conservatives are big dummies.

My favorite bit was Ron pearlman talking about races when in the ship. Talking about the two Indians teaming up and how it would be awesome

The setup is great. Entire first act and most of 2nd is just calling pop culture and politics dumbasses. THEN the twist comes with the announcement of the shuttle launch. The speech from the battleship was a shot at Bush, then the fireworks were a knock at Trump. It spiraled from there.

DiCaprio's rant was so out of place for the pacing/mood of the show I laughed out loud. He just HAD to get that in.

I for one enjoyed the movie. It had some funny parts for sure. But as the movie got closer and closer to the end, it got less funny and alot more depressing.

I found myself asking, is the billionaire/government really that stupid as to care more about money than people's lives. Then the realization hit...

I don't think he meant Biden, just a hybrid of all the rich techs. Musk, Jobs, Zuckerberg
