The amount of mental gymnastics in this thread is impressive.

My review:
Just watched this the other day because it popped up to the top of Netflix. I didn't know what it was about, thought it would be about something an old gamer friend once said about getting the jump on other gamers ("no one ever looks up") but then I saw it was about an asteroid hitting the earth. I'm always up for a good apocalypse movie so we watched it.
I thought some of it was funny and about halfway through I could see the asteroid was probably going to win, was not disappointed. By the time it was half over I also hated most of the characters enough that I was cheering for the asteroid, although I felt bad for all the cute animals they kept showing pictures of.
Through the second half I began to sniff AGENDA, however, and I figured this was probably about COVID what with all the whining about how no one was Listening To The Science. I looked it up on Teh Internets and was actually shocked to see this was supposed to be some big analogy about climate change.
Then I was annoyed and disappointed. What kind of morons think climate change is anything like an asteroid about to hit the earth?

Saw some redditors asking "if anyone would change their fossil fuel behavior based on this movie". What behavior should we ordinary peons change, exactly? Most people I know already try to conserve gas and electricity because it's expensive. I'm not sure what you think ordinary pepole can do. They say stupid shite like "don't eat meat" or "give up this" and "give up that" and it amounts to "suffer without any climate control in your house, walk everywhere and drink your soylent green". Every single star in this movie burns more carbon in a week than anyone I know does in a year.

Loving all the heated debate about our movie. But if you don’t have at least a small ember of anxiety about the climate collapsing (or the US teetering) I’m not sure Don’t Look Up makes any sense. It’s like a robot viewing a love story. “WHy ArE thEir FacEs so cLoSe ToGether?”

The bottom line is, it doesn't matter if you like the movie or not, everyone who replies to this thread is contributing in their own small way to McKay's next project. When you keep the conversation going, that contributes to this project's success, and to the greenlighting of his next project.

Of course. If you don't get it then you hate the Earth. His attempt at humor in the movie fell flat, and his analogy about a robot saying something also fell flat. He should just get Will Ferrell to improvise a YouTube video about the climate if he wants to produce something humourous and clever

Did any of you watch the post credit scene where the president does indeed die by a Bronteroc on the planet that the ship landed on 22k years later?
Posted on 12/29/21 at 11:39 pm to Abstract Queso Dip
There’s actually 2 post credit scenes
Posted on 12/29/21 at 11:45 pm to wildtigercat93
Yes. I liked them both even though they were predictable. I enjoyed the movie. It seems the majority of people ok this board hate everything.

couple of things, the steven seagal pic was the funniest part of the movie
it was well done, but I despise the meaningless cuts of the animals and minutiae
it was way too long and too broad, just a steaming pile of non-stop quick cuts trying to do too much and make too many points
the MSM and social media quant segment was awesome
the irony of Adam mckay’s movies are he is for open discussion if you agree with him and he is skewering a part of society and culture that he and his peers are big parts of.
the cast was great on paper BUT there was a glaring lack of self awareness in some, specifically Leo
a movie about Cate Blanchett’s character with leo et al in supporting roles would have been interesting
I think the premise was misguided and a lot of the points mckay tried to make may have made sense at the time but havent aged well or have fallen apart from shooting to release
it is painfully obvious what mckay and his writers think about the flyover country
how many times did they say “peer reviewed” studies and data, holy shite we get it, but “peer reviewed” is code for “debunked” or “validated” if they agree with it or disagree with it
“we’re all going to die” from the two stars of the movie is a little too on the nose for satire, that was probably written into leo and Jlaw’s contracts
I liked the Oglethorpe character and actor a lot

I guess I'm a robot then because I couldn't give a shite less about climate change. The Earth will still be here long after I'm gone, and I'm pretty sure it will be as if I never existed. All of these celebrities and politicians are crying about the climate while having carbon footprints that eclipse mine, yours, and third world nations combined. I haven't put more than 300 miles on my car since this pandemic bullshite started. As for the US teetering, the same fricksticks, along with the corporate media, need to stop pushing shite that divides people against each other, all while telling you how to think and act, lest the mob come for you. The biggest problem with this movie is it's the same preachy, pretentious, we know better than you bullshite they've been spewing for ages. frick off already.

What a pretentious,
presumptuous, elitist, childish douchebag. That's the old line, oh you you don't like something? Then you just don't get it. Your movie sucked pal and it had nothing to do with the topic of your attempt at satire but rather the execution.

I haven’t seen the film and I’m not a big believer man made climate change is a driving force behind what this planet does climate wise. It’s obvious McKay is a big believer so if he didn’t find a way to make fun of China (the biggest polluter on the planet) then he’s just another Hollywood hypocrite that sucks their dick for cash.

I thought it was pretty funny even if it was trying to send a climate change message.
This movie actually did what so many movies failed to do, it equally pokes fun at both sides of the political aisle which is rare. Yes they ripped on Republicans for being “rednecks“ and ignoring facts. They also ripped on liberals for being elitists and out of touch with how the real world works, and they made fun of all the bigwig corporation guys like Bezos and Zuckerberg for being robots who only think about their own companies and don’t care about humans.
Obviously the president had a lot of Trump qualities but one of the central points of the movie was her letting the tech company control everything which is making fun of Democrats. All the YouTube video clips they showed pretty equally made fun of both types of people on the internet.
Overall it was a funny movie and it made fun of everybody. If you got offended because they made fun of “your side” then you are part of the political problem, because they made fun of both sides, really that was the whole point. The movie wants everyone to stop arguing about dumb stuff and realize climate change is happening.

Unfortunately I can’t get back that two hours of my life from that abortion of a movie
If they are that miserable why don’t they all just move somewhere else
