My goodness some people just want to force politics into everything. Is that what Armageddon was?

This movie was a satire. If you can’t see that then you are blind.

I watched it last night. It definitely goes after both sides and the current political landscape in general, but certainly skews Left. The comedy was just okay, but the script was decent enough to keep me entertained when I was pretty sure I'd fall asleep on the couch.

It being an allegory for global warming is also pretty thinly veiled, but I do see larger themes about humanity in the story.

As for the story itself... Seveneves by Neal Stephenson does it much, much better.

Pretty much my thoughts as well.

I think its funny that in trying to satirize one side, McKay, actually satirized both sides fairly evenly. Checks out.

The best part of the movie is the post credit scene 22000 years later ending in..."Everything will be fine, just don't try and pet them!"

#Netflix rankings are in and all the controversy around #DontLookUp helped it to finally break #RedNotice’s 148M hours biggest viewership in 1 week record, reaching 152.3M hours watched in its 2nd week globally.

#CobraKai also had a strong debut with 120.1M hours watched globally.

I fell asleep the first time so I added so more hours to the total. Jonah Hill and Timothy Chalmet(sp) stole every scene they were in. I thought everyone except Leo and Jennifer Lawrence were good actually which was surprising

Ill be honest. It wasn't that bad. I enjoyed it for the most part. Definitely skewed to the left.

My favorite joke of the movie was Jennifer Lawrence's constant retelling of the story of the general charging them for the snacks

Agree, that was funny. The funniest to me was at the end when the President got her head bitten off and (true to his prediction) the guy said, "we believe that is a rockasaur" both me and my wife laughed out-loud.

I've watched a few clips and it looks hilarious.

I just don't trust the message or a single one of the messengers.

I don't think its attacking certain ideologies as much as it is politicians and our culture in general.

I kept trying to figure out what the "angle" was. Was it about Covid? Or global warming? Or something else?

It had its moments but the whole "don't look up" thing was very liberal pandering--just can't tell if it was pointed to climate change or covid deniers

I don't think you're supposed to be able to watch it and point to one thing or the other and say "its about this". Seemed like a pretty strong rebuke against the government in general, the media's coverage (and lack of coverage) of events that are actually important vs what gets clicks, and how we as a country respond to both.

Thought it was a good movie. The satire hitting both sides of the political aisle was great, attack on social media and news media was great, and how humans care about worthless crap was great. Felt like a good comedy show that bashes everyone. Agree that the first half was funnier than the second.

Just finished it. Didn’t really think it was overly slanted as a satire. I just didn’t think most of the jokes landed. I’ll give it a pretty solid “meh”.

I laughed more at the beginning but then towards the end got kinda sad because I can see the screwed up leadership of this country pulling something like this off.

Left or right doesn’t matter, everyone of our leaders appear to be soulless money grabbing whores.

Edit: felt like the jokes just kept repeating as well, first time no one listened and they got upset haha, 4th or 5th or 10th time… meh

That trailer Has to be satire right?

This is one of those movies that the "3 mask jab your 5 year old then cut his dick off when he is 6" types will loveeeeeee.

A weird question to drop into the 13th page of a conversation about explicitly satirical content, but yes.

It was fairly entertaining, but in the end it was a smug "Hollywood knows best" film created by people who are so far out of touch with reality that they think their opinion is better than everyone elses. High-brow, but entertaining nonetheless. Probably Jonah Hill's worst role.
