This is so overplayed. Besides a few twitter leftists no one was actually mad at Chappelle. And most of these comedians vote for Bernie and Biden.

Again maybe in 2015, but comedians and celebrities on all levels brush off those controversies with no issue these days. People just like the idea of them protecting free speech and all that, when no one has stopped them from succeeding with edgy comedy, and that has propelled people’s career more so than ended them in this day and age

Corps figured out a long time ago that people don’t have the attention spans to continue to follow through on their anger about these things so they just need to wait a week or two for 80 other things to go viral and then it’s business as usual.

Brands these days in some cases post edgier comedy than some of the Joe Rogan coat tail comedians who talk about how edgy they are but really wouldn’t move the needle

The cancel culture thing is simply a profit driver at this stage.

I get the same enjoyment just going back and listening to Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock and Mitch Hedberg in their prime. Still holds up

“I’m against picketing but I don’t know how to show it…”

What? This isn't the pinnacle of comedy?

Shane Gillis admits or atleast has talked about the whole SNL cancellation was a huge boast to his career and likely the best thing that happened to him.

You're just making shite up. Just because it worked out in the end, doesn't mean it was pleasant for him. Maybe listen to the podcast a time or 2 before you come on here and type a fricking novel.

I agree. I think Jeselnik is very funny, but he seems dull out of character and comes off as a total d-bag.

Glad Tracy Morgan was mentioned. I remember first seeing him on Def Comedy Jam and his set was not funny at all. How he went from that to what he is now is mind boggling. He had to have sold his soul.

Also Tiffany Haddish. She was funny in one movie but she's never been funny since.

Never said it was a fun time for him, but it undoubtedly helped his career. Certainly more than being anchored to SNL would have. That’s directly from him on a podcast

Nikki Glaser must know she's not very funny.

Why else put so much effort into that CFM look onstage?

The Original Kings of Comedy.

It was all the rage in 2000. "Dude you gotta watch the Kings of Comedy. its fricking hilarious."

I watched it, and didn't laugh once.

If you didn't laugh at Bernie Mack you have no sense of humor.

Richard Pryor.

In his day, one of the funniest humans alive. Tapes, not pod cast or cds, listening to Black man meets Dracula etc. was belly laugh hilarious. His profanity was cutting edge and fit him. All black comedians tried to emulate him, but most just cussed thinking that was funny instead of having funny jokes. Like great music, the best comedy came from that era, before the counter culture was usurped by the cancel culture.

The John Mulaney skits on SNL mocking catchphrase comedians is perfect imo.

Most of these catchphrase comedians are terrible and worse than open mic people…Shucky Ducky, Hamburger Jones, etc. I am amazed they ever had careers.

Not a catchphrase comedian, but they also mocked Dane Cook, and I never understood his appeal.

Sam Kinison is revered, but I suspect his material is extremely dated. Bobcat Goldwait, too.

I was never a fan of Carlos Mencia, either.

Kinison was a hack

Screaming unfunny jokes about marriage into a mic. That Rogan reveres him is exhibit a of Rogan being lame.
