There are some conspiracy theorists who say this was a false flag or staged?

I was deployed in Afghanistan when this happened so I didn’t know the details regarding all the events.

After watching this in its entirety, this sounds as if this was a field training exercise gone horribly wrong. A city that big should never be closed. This was a shitshow

Had to laugh at the Asian knowing his new cars gps number by heart

In all seriousness though what a beast to get out of there, he had to have been so scared. He’s essentially the reason they were caught so fast

Just finished, quick thoughts:

-Like others, it’s crazy how much your memory changes. I totally forgot about 90% of the story. I actually thought they killed the second brother in the boat

-I don’t care what your politics are, Barack can give a speech like no one’s business, gave me chills

-God bless that genius Asian who’s so in-love with his car he had the GPS tracker memorized lololol. I’ve always wondered if I’d have the courage to get out of a car and run in a situation like that, good on him!

-I didn’t think the reporter was letting him off the hook personally. I would’ve thought it weird if they told us nothing about their backstory or upbringing. It’s only natural to try to find a why, doesn’t mean you agree with or accept that as s defense

-I can’t imagine the kind of people who work for someone like this on an appeal. I know it’s technically part of our judicial system, but I don’t know how anyone could try to get this dude off or try to get his life sentence overturned. Quit wasting time and expenses and put a damn pipe bomb in his mouth already

-It’s insane to me how inaccurate shootouts can be. You see movies like Heat or the Town and you think no way those dudes would still be alive when the truth is it’s insane how inaccurate folks are in those high-pressure scenarios. Those two dudes standing on the sidewalks shooting right at each other and missing?!? Wtf. That boat looking like Swiss cheese and him just walking out?!? Insane. Nuts no one caught a stray like folks said. Even luckier no one got friendly fire when that many folks are running up

Overall I loved it. It blows my mind how quickly people can fall off and then become violent

Why does this first episode try to make it seem like these dudes weren’t Muslims? They were both Muslims who got radicalized and went extreme.

It also tried to frame it like “they’re just normal white guys.” Their family is from Chechnya. Who has more terrorists than Chechnya?

ETA: I know his parents weren’t radical, that wasn’t the point I was making

+1 I thought the same thing.

We just finished watching it and highly recommend. I still can't believe the younger brother managed to escape after that crazy shootout with police. That boggles my mind.

It’s almost like the local police departments and the FBI didn’t see eye to eye, even now, after all this time. I remember watching this live on CNN when it happened and Wolf Blitzer blaming it on gas line explosions right after it happened. That was truly the jumping the shark moment for me when it comes to CNN.

Watched yesterday, overall, really well done... And once again, the Feds frick up an investigation/case.

Should have put the pics out immediately when they had them instead of being forced to due to a possible leak and then why the hell wouldn't you immediately go back and re-trace anyone you investigated/were aware of?

The friends are bitches for not immediately giving the name once they saw the pics and that reporter comes across as a twat in some of his comments.

The cop that pulled them over and was in the shootout seems like a cool guy to have a beer with.

They somewhat tried a sympathetic portrayal of the bombers

The real MVP there.

Just finished it this morning. Put together really well. Made me realize that I mis-remembered the timeline of events. Thought it started and finished in 2 days.

It did seem like the report was trying to portray them as more sympathetic in the final episode. Trying to rationalize their motivates more. Even then the jumps those 2 made were extreme.

The older cop, the one who flanked them in the shootout. JK Simmons plays him in that mark wahlberg movie about this, and the movie got that part right.

I came away feeling the same. At first, I was somewhat sympathetic to him. I can feel for normal muslims who are just living their lives, who want and have nothing to do with the radical terrorists.

But for him to be upset when he heard that his friend died, and to lash out at people celebrating the pos being possibly dead. frick him to the highest measure, he cared more about his so-called friend who killed multiple people, than the innocent lives that were lost.

That almost makes me bring into question on how innocent the really is. Did the friend truly have no idea that Dzhokar could be capable of this, or was he aware, and simply decided he wouldn't be involved in the murderous plot? I also doubt that he really didnt recognize him from the pictures. It's not like he had on shades like the older brother. Just like the roommates knew, and protected him. He probably knew and tried to protect as well.

Edit: Just read an article about the roommates. LINK
quote:

At 5 p.m. on April 18th, the F.B.I. released pictures of the suspected perpetrators of the bombing, lifted from a surveillance tape, and asked for help identifying the suspects. As soon as he saw the first, grainy picture on the news, Kadyrbayev texted his roommate to urge him to come home. Once Tazhayakov arrived, they drove to campus, where they rushed to Tsarnaev’s room in Pine Dale Hall. So did many other students, whose first reaction to the pictures was not to call the authorities but to go ask Dzhokhar himself if he had set off the bombs. Kadyrbayev had even texted Tsarnaev, asking as much: “for real?” Without confirming or denying that he was the bomber, Tsarnaev replied, “If yu want yu can go to my room and take what's there,” accompanied by a smiley face.

So not only did his friends recognize him. But other students on campus did as well. Yet none of them reported him to the police. frick every single one of those kids as far as I'm concerned.

This probably hit home for me more than most, given where I was born and raised. I thought it was really well done. I will say that the reporter Phillip Martin kind of pissed me off. He seemed upset that people jumped to the conclusion that it was Islamic terrorists who were responsible for the attack. Well, turns out that they were right Phillip.

It’s a good thing I have zero political influence at all because I would throw his arse out just for that idiotic mindset. The people who knew the younger brother and didn’t come forward have blood on their hands. frick those people too.
