Well if the season ended with a "bang" would we even need another season?

My gut told me this would be an overall successful show. I didn't compare it at all to breaking bad since its completely different.

Ernesto reminded me too much of Gustavo

Idk but it was predicted frequently in previous threads as a potential catalyst for Saul

Not at all. Gus is always perfectly calm and in control of the situation. He wouldn't let Mike boss him around, let alone give Mike a reason to boss him around.

Well as I mentioned I thought for sure Saul mentions him by name in one of his commercials in bb. Of course that could be his first commercial ice he makes his transformation

How he changed his name and not lose his license is beyond me.

Some of them are just trolls. You can tell when they are trying too hard to bash the show. Don't feed them.

Standing on its own, sure there's nothing wrong with it. But it has 2 things going against it IMO:

1)The rest of the season was so fantastic. The rest of S1 is incredible television, I think everyone was blown away with how well this show stands on its own merit and isn't just a breaking bad spinoff. This episode didn't live up to the rest.

2)It was the finale. The past few weeks we've been building and building with several different storylines so I imagine everyone expected a major hit with the last one of the season. Yet instead we got a whimper instead of a bang. Only a few seconds of Mike. Zero chuck/jimmy storyline. Basically nothing from HHM's end. It was just kinda...there. It was on, we watched it, it ended, that was it. I think we expected more.

THAT, in my opinion, is what was BEST about the episode. I loved the subtleness of a man simply going home in disappointment and "rediscovering" his true self. He had the example of his partner finding a good job (Stand Pipes) and it sucking the life right out of him. Jimmy learns to LIVE not just "succeed" at the cost of what he really is.

AND, remember, just the episode before we got the lesson of "you can be a criminal and not a bad guy"...be true to yourself and keep your word, etc.

Always...ALWAYS...leave them wanting more. Mike has had a few great episodes. Let that just simmer in this one. Great approach.

The entire episode was "Jimmy / Chuck" story line. It was just subtext.

I thought it was great. I find this explanation of Jimmy becoming Saul MUCH more satisfying than simply "hit rock bottom / been betrayed" into it. He THRIVED way to much in the Saul character to simply have 'sunk' to it. He had to embrace it as his true self.

I absolutely agree. Not trying to go mining for genius here, but i feel like gilligan knew the entire viewing public was baited for for an epic snap and he toyed with that

Too many people still carry breaking bad 2.0 baggage into this series and im sure he realizes that

I'm also fine with how they decided to portray his transformation, but I think the episode was poorly directed. Going on a bender as Slippin' Jimmy and hearing his old friend say "This was the greatest week of my life" just before he died obviously was a big part of him finally embracing his true self. But between watching his friend die and turning around in the parking lot, we weren't given an "aha moment" where his facial expression changes and we know that that is the moment he made his transformation. Instead, we see him walking towards the building rehearsing his entrance, and then he suddenly turns around. That was a lame "point of no return" moment. Obviously the whole scene was meant to be the moment, but even the line he delivered was a little too vague.

"Well, I know what stopped me, and you know what? It's never stopping me again."

Even in the interview that was linked to, Bob Odenkirk wasn't exactly sure what the line meant. He is guessing as much as we are.

Jimmy settling for a legit law practice would be as awkward as you flying fixed wing aircraft.

For those who remember it from Breaking Bad:

Anyone else catch the Belize line during the Bingo rant?

"B as in Battleship, B as in Bourbon, B as in Belize. Beautiful place, so I've heard. I would love to go there. But, ah, let's face it. That's never going to happen. None of us is ever leaving this God-forsaken wasteland."

Agree. The subtle realization of who he is destined to be was fantastic. Reminds me of the overlooked (and unfortunately criticized) quiet tone of Season 1 of BB.

Nope. Marco made him realize there was no point to him 'Breaking Good' just to please his douchebag brother.

I didn't realize it was the season finale until I read this thread. Now I'm bummed.

Deep down, he is Slippin' Jimmy, and he's damn good at it.

Either he changes over to caring about the money at some point or he's just so deep in he has to do what people like Gus Fring want him to do. He wasn't scamming anyone but the cops in BB. He was avoiding anything that "looked" shady to protect himself and his clients as Saul.
