Yup.

he gave it up for the opportunity to make money dishonestly just to spite Chuck. Meh.
See this is where it gets me. All season he was trying to improve. Trying to be a good guy. Chuck was his biggest influence and he wanted nothing more than to make him proud.
Now he's pissed at Chuck but passes up an opportunity to prove him wrong?

I have a feeling next season will be epic and filled with new and old characters.

So why did he turn that job down? Nobody would do that. Partner and all that cash??? What did I miss?
I agree that not many people would do that (there have been several instances like that this season).
But accepting the show for what it is - a fictional show, I think maybe, just like Jimmy's friend (Marco?) needed the thrill of one last con, Jimmy/Saul needs the thrill of living on the edge as a criminal lawyer. Big risks, big rewards. Sure, I think he could slog away as a more or less reputable lawyer with the new firm but I'm not sure how much fulfillment he would find in that role.

Yeah. I think everyone just wanted more out of the finale, myself included. The entire season was such a slow build but every episode kept you engaged. This episode didn't. There was a payoff to the season but it just felt so rushed after tons of dead time.
Overall the season was great and I think they set up a TON to work with. Jimmy/Kim, Jimmy/Chuck, Jimmy/Mike, Hamlin/Jimmy/Chuck. Mike is dirty again but has his reasons. Jimmy just decided to say screw it.
Should be a solid season two.
Reminds me of BB's first season in a way. Pretty slow but it laid the groundwork for lots of characters and stories.

What a fantastic first 9 episodes and absolute shitbox of a finale. I get that he reconnected with an old friend and his old way of life, and that sparked him to realize that his new profession would afford him the opportunity to really hustle, but fack man, that was a slow episode.

That's exactly my issue with it. It seems like personally the drive for me would have been to prove him wrong. Maybe the better progression would have been Saul taking the opportunity, and then something happens where things wind up not working out. Maybe this progression is better though because it makes a stronger point that he just likes living that dishonest life, and he knows that it simply fits him best because he made a real conscious choose to pursue it specifically rather than being forced into it.

I love this show but for a finale this blows so far
Especially after the past few episodes. No Mike?
The finale felt more like an episode 3. Wow!
I'm going to keep watching but looking back, I only enjoyed 3 episodes. Most of the times, I got bored.
season 2 hopes:
- get rid of the Chuck storyline
- need Jimmy to become Saul
- need to be embrace the Breaking Bad spirit (more episodes like Five O).

Oh wow. That show took me like a year to get through. Episodes feel so long and I'm not one to watch hours and hours of TV a day.

I enjoyed the finale, guess I'm in the minority. Nice Bolivia reference there, and the Kevin Costner bit was funny too.
Can't wait for season 2

They could have ended last week. The scene where he and chuck have it out, he takes the deal from Howard and then just add the last scene with he a Mike. It would have been better. Nonetheless, fantastic season overall. Don't think we could have hoped for better.

Yeah, when Saul is kidnapped by Walt and Jesse, he names Ignacio (nacho) as the one who apparently screwed over "Lalo".
So Saul is fully expecting that at any time he could be kidnapped and murdered for actions or things he was a part of.
I look forward to seeing that.

i think he realized that trying to prove chuck wrong was just not worth it. he's not built that way
it's like zen...you be the best you that you can be. jimmy is a wheel greaser. it took a trip back to realize that
it's like how he hesitated to leave chicago and go to ABQ...plus how if you're just making it as a lawyer, you're doing it wrong (as in JIMMY is doing it wrong for Jimmy). go back to scene 1. he cares about being "better call saul" jimmy
or, to quote goofellas

See, the hardest thing for me was leaving the life. I still love the life. And we were treated like movie stars with muscle. We had it all, just for the asking. Our wives, mothers, kids, everybody rode along. I had paper bags filled with jewelry stashed in the kitchen. I had a sugar bowl full of coke next to the bed. Anything I wanted was a phone call away. Free cars. The keys to a dozen hideout flats all over the city. I'd bet twenty, thirty grand over a weekend and then I'd either blow the winnings in a week or go to the sharks to pay back the bookies. Didn't matter. It didn't mean anything. When I was broke I would go out and rob some more. We ran everything. We paid off cops. We paid off lawyers. We paid off judges. Everybody had their hands out. Everything was for the taking. And now it's all over. And that's the hardest part. Today, everything is different. There's no action. I have to wait around like everyone else. Can't even get decent food. Right after I got here, I ordered some spaghetti with marinara sauce and I got egg noodles and ketchup. I'm an average nobody. I get to live the rest of my life like a schnook.

Gilligan has built a fabulous foundation in these first ten episodes, much like Godfather series flashbacks to youthful experiences, in explaining the mindset Jimmy works from.
What order and/or how fast(or not), Gilligan goes about getting further into BB characters/storylines in future seasons, doesn't bother me at all. The canvas is huge, and limitless, actually hope he slow plays it yet again..make this thing go five seasons or more.
Totally agree SFP on the Jimmy as grifter(yet now graduated to the legal profession not street hustler) angle.
F@ck Chuck..get back to slippin'!

I don't get the hate for this episode. It had some great slippin Jimmy moments, and the rant at the nursing home was fricking hilarious . It was a great transformation from him being a reformed con legit lawyer right back to his old ways, except now he's got a law degree and he knows there's tons of dirty cash to be made.
Great set up for season 2 IMO

Meh. We will see what happens but this first season was BORING! We learned enough about the characters in BB that they could have made SOMETHING happen in 10 hours but they were too worried about making Saul "break bad" as slowly as possible, way too fricking slowly.

The BINGO rant was fantastic, but I was underwhelmed with this episode. Gilligan is a genius and I'm putting my faith in him and this show for season 2.

Man you mf'ers have been Gilliganized
It takes some men cancer, dead end jobs, worrying about their familys security to cross over to the dark side. VG had everybody thinking Chuck was gonna die in a house fire, HHM was gonna steal the case or some shite for Saul to come alive...
He said nah

Terrific season but weak snoozer of a finale. It does set up nicely for next season though.
