I don't know, I'm not quite getting it. He enjoyed taking a vacation to be Slippin' Jimmy for a while, but he didn't want to do the last scam. He was clearly concerned about getting back to his legitimate life, and he didn't look like he was resisting temptation. It looks like he only gave in because friggin' Todd was begging him. Maybe he was affected by Todd saying "This was the greatest week of my life" and then dying, but he didn't really show it.
Hold it, is he saying Chuck got the DA to trump up the charges? Why would he even have talked to Chuck after that?
Umm, what? Just the (unnatural) desire to do the right thing? The desire to prove to Chuck that he could be an good, honest lawyer? I'm just not sure exactly how his trip to Chicago convinced him to embrace his true self as Slippin' Jimmy.
quote:
(making excuses...) "Now Chuck was connected, see, like uh, Cicero connected. So usually I'd be looking at malicious mischief, public intoxication, disorderly conduct... maybe. But he's got the DA saying 'indecent exposure'. Calling me a sex offender. What? One little 'Chicago Sunroof' and suddenly I'm Charles Manson?! And this is where it all went off the rails. I've been paying for it ever since. That's why I'm here!"

quote:
"You wanna know why I didn't take that money, is that what you're asking?"
"Yeah, that's what I'm asking."
"Me personally, I was hired to do a job... I did it... it's as far as it goes."
"Yeah. Well, I know what stopped me, and you know what? It's never stopping me again."

I think it means he's been trying to be somebody he's not. Much like Walter White, Heisenberg was who he really was. Saul Goodman will be his Heisenberg. I seem to remember Marco saying he had nothing. Maybe Jimmy doesn't want to go out like Marco did, with nothing living an honest life working on standpipe.

I understand the episode was slow, but it also seemed believable and realistic. And it set up next season perfectly.
As Jimmy was walking toward the courthouse and the camera focused on Jimmy feeling Marco's ring, I knew what was coming. It was kind of sad because Jimmy had this great opportunity in front of him, but it wasn't the payoff he wanted. For one thing, it still wouldn't gain his brother's respect. And for another, it just wasn't going to be where Jimmy's heart is.

Peter Gould wrote and directed the finale. Bring back Gordon Smith (writer of Five-O) and let Gilligan take more control of the show...

The last time we met Marco, the episode when the rolex scam is first shown, Jimmy at one point in the scene says "It's all good, man!" (It's Saul Goodman)
I thought for sure this would be the episode Jimmy'd make the name change after seeing previews of the finale which showed Jimmy would hook up w/ Marco again to roll another rolex scam.
Really thought the finale would have been the perfect spot to embrace his alter ego. Guess this plot device will be more of a slow burn.

He may not have said "I'm now Saul Goodman"
But he cut ties with his brother and decided that he was a slimy frick and a slimy frick needs to be....slimy.
He is now Saul Goodman.

Self realization that he wouldn't fit in with a big firm; so, what's the point!
Chuck tells him..."I know you. I know who you are. You're Slippin' Jimmy."
Marco tells him if he's not "making bank", he's doing something wrong.
It hits him that he has to use his life's experience to be successful; that life's experience is the con game.

Finale was slow but it was more to set up the rest of the series IMO. It makes sense why Jimmy turned down the big job. Marco dying played a key role in that obviously. Jimmy realized that life is short and that the only reason he changed his ways and passed the bar was to make his brother proud and work with him. Now that he knows how his brother feels and what he did, he doesn't really care about continuing down the path that he was on. He wants to do what he does best, and scam people. Now that he has a JD, it adds a whole new element to the things he can do. Slippin' Jimmy 4 life.

I thought something bigger would happen in the finale, but I really enjoyed it. Great first season.

Definitely a weak episode because I'm sure we all expected way more out of a finale. But we get it... still a solid season overall!

don't forget the subtle one: the chick telling him how much the old people love him. like i said, he's a wheel greaser

So is Jimmy a registered sex offender?
Posted on 4/7/15 at 11:55 am to AlbertMeansWell
no
the DA gave him trumped up charges that would require registering as a sex offender
chuck flies in to save his arse and does
as a compromise, jimmy goes back with him to work in the mail room at HHM, even though marco almost got him to frick over chuck

What I'm interested in is how he manages to change his name, but stay in the same city.

just watched on my lunch break. Glad to see I'm not the only one disappointed.
In my eyes vince can do no wrong...but man that was underwhelming. And the whole big breaking point that makes him turn to the dark side and become saul was just looking at his ring? Remembering the good times he had with his buddy and realizing he could make more cash doing dirty jobs like with mike than doing it the right way...that was the Aha moment?
Man that was a let down.

great first season that ended with a bit of a fizzle for me
Not a huge fan of the finale, but the preceding episodes were so fantastic

Odenkirk on the finale
I'd love to see Odenkirk take on a Neal Cassady/Dean Moriarty type roll.
