If he brings to training camp what he brought to the draft process, he’s getting cut.

It’s kind of amazing how little he has seemed to care about what happened. That makes me concerned about whether he values the game as much as he values the image he wants to portray.

Putting all the off the field stuff aside, which I know you can’t, would you rather have Jake Haener, who we know will never be good, or shadeur making less than a million bucks to see if he’s good? There are Haeners all over the league, which is why 12 or 15 QBs get taken every draft
Well, you can’t separate the off the field stuff. That is the big issue here.

While he isn’t terrible, if his off the field problems were half as egregious with the arrogance, he would have easily gone in the 2nd or 3rd.

If I was confident that Sanders would be able to put his head down, work insanely hard, and support the starter as a backup, yea, I would take him, but we both know he won’t do that.

IMO, he is more likely to pull a Tonya Harding and try to sabotage the starter.

The starter position in Cleveland is WIIIIIDE open. Deshawn Watson is likely finished, Flacco is too old, There's a reason Kenny Pickett got cut from the Steelers after being one of their top draft picks 2-3 tears ago. So training camp is a battle between Gabriel and Sanders for the starting position.

I'd give the edge to Sanders because despite listing Gabriel at 5' 11".....he's more like 5'9.5" and Sanders is taller. Sanders moves better in the pocket and can improvise on roll outs better than Gabriel....but Gabriel's no slouch in that department either.

Have you seen the Browns quarterback room? Shedeur is more likely to end up starting half the s wrong than he is to being cut pre-season.

If he can play, he will play. This feeding frenzy about this guy's talent is way off. His attitude was terrible, and he's paying for it dearly. Cleveland is a QB wasteland and continues to double down with its head coach. So who knows if any of their QBs will be developed going forward?

But the Browns were smart to take Sanders in the 5th round. If he works out, they can keep him, or they can trade him for a much higher draft pick. Either way, the Browns didn't have to sell the ranch to make Sanders a project. And hopefully, Sanders has now received the attitude adjustment he so richly deserved. Humility is a great thing in all aspects of life.

Wow, this thread delivers. We got posters going from him being cut to posters saying he’ll be the starter.

I think he’s better than Gabriel but has baggage. I think Picket, Flacco and Watson are all better than him right now also, but Flacco isn’t there to start and Watson is hurt so we’ll see how pre season goes. If Sanders struggles and Gabriel doesn’t it will become interesting to see who gets cut. They can’t cut Watson but could cut Pickett. Flacco is backup insurance.

Tanking for Arch is asinine. 1 He might not be great - less than 100 passes thrown in college and no real competition when he played (Miss St was worse than bad last year). 2 If Arch is second coming like some people think, what’s to say he does come out knowing the Browns have the no 1 pick, his Uncle forced San Diego to not draft him so family has picked their team before. Point is, tanking for Arch is not a smart strategy and likely only fan theory (although Browns are dumb so who knows).

Just out of curiosity, is it possible to get your practice squad jersey retired?

The Browns currently have 5 QBs: Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders. NFL teams rarely keep more than three QBs on their active roster. Watson is hurt and could be put on IR but that will depend on his return from injury timeline, which would mean he doesn't count against the 53-man roster limit. They have to keep one of Flacco or Pickett to have a backup with NFL starting experience, if not both while Watson is hurt. I don't think it would be wise to have either Pickett or Flacco and two project rookie QBs as your options going into the season. So, Gabriel and Sanders will likely battle it out for the third roster spot until Watson comes back.

Another possibility is that the Browns trade one of Flacco or Pickett closer to the season to let Gabriel and Sanders get a fall camp under their belts. This might help Cleveland figure out if they have a viable starter/backup in either of Gabriel or Sanders. I think there is a chance they keep both if they're both solid out the gate, but this is the less likely scenario IMO.

It would be career suicide for the coaching staff if the Browns don't have at least two viable options at QB going into the 2025 season. So, if the projections about both Gabriel and Sanders are true, and if Watson misses an extended period of time in 2025, then one of Gabriel and Sanders isn't making the team unless Cleveland chooses to tank this year.

This is how I feel. I don't know if it's a good thing on how nonchalant he seemed.

He’s worried too much about “I’m coming in to change things and do it my way” instead of just working to win a starting job. This is the problem with never having had to compete for a job and everyone just giving it to you. In his mind, the question is how he’s going to operate as the starter “his way” and not “shite I actually need to win this job to even be the starter”

It’s amazing how the lack of self awareness and entitlement is off the charts lol

Serious answer to your question in the OP? Not colored by personal dislike of the guy and his daddy?

It's up to him.

Has gotten confused with confidence, he’s said time and time again he knows he can play and he’s show that.

100% agree. The fact that their idiot owner traded up to draft him suggests he's going to be on the roster no matter what, out of spite or some other stupid non-football related reason.

He's better than his draft position. If he fixes the alleged problems that got him into this situation he'll be on the roster.

Can't wait for the Deion running commentary in the media when Shedeur isn't starting week 1. What a mistake the Browns made inviting this circus in.

Also some of his new teammates have been posting all over social media about how great it is to have Shedeur, while saying nothing about Dillon Gabriel, who was a much higher draft pick. Feel sorry for that kid to get caught in this situation.

You don’t suddenly fix work ethic. That’s a bit of a long term fix even if you get your head right.
