Every time I see his name I’m transported back in time to when TD was in its prime and Maximus was calling his OL friend a fat lesbian.

Good times.

That's it.

I think we pwned him in the 1997 Independence Bowl.

All 3 of those guys delivered in college. What is your definition of delivering?

Wasn't he on Regis and Kathy Lee one time. I seem to have that in my memory

Looks like that was Gus Ornstein. My mistake

Early 2000’s, LBer Willie Williams. 6’4”, 230 lbs and ran a 4.3/4.4. He was a huge recruit and did one of the first recruiting diaries.

He committed to Miami and a story came out about him punching a guy and setting off fire extinguishers at a Gainesville hotel on a recruiting trip. It violated his juvenile probation and he almost wasn’t able to enroll.

He did enroll and wasn’t coachable so he went to enroll at Pearl River CC but couldn’t get his paperwork in in time. So he went to some CC in L.A. and then went to Louisville and was arrested and kicked off the team.

Then he was arrested for burglary and spent a bunch of time in prison.

There’s some very well done stories on his rise and fall if you want to go read up on him. Considered one of the biggest busts in college football.

A litany of answers could be given but I'll stick with LA specifically since its the lifeblood of the program.

Joe McKnight- all the consternation was a bit exaggerated you think?
Any Booty- Josh and John David particularly. Neither were anything but system qbs from a system at the time ahead of the curve
Countless highly rated DL recruits. The most overhyped of all the positions the state produces numbers at.
Half the 5* wrs the state produces. Ruben Randle, D'Angelo Benton(his backstory alone is worth a read and add in the Randle connection and its fitting both disappointed), Malachi Dupre, Shelton Sampson just to name a few. Wrs are our thing. More success from lower rated, upside kids with that LA dog in them greatly help the cause.
Perriloux- much self inflicted as the talent wasn't questionable. Worked out with Flynn in 07 but imagine if we Colt McCoy instead of the promise of Perriloux?
Relevant today, Arch Manning. Never believed the hype with him to be honest but I expected more than he is. When even Texas fans, such an arrogant, shite dont stink group, recognize hes more hype than real, its telling.

Powlus was a baller but injuries piled up and he deteriorated physically during college. Still managed to set a bunch of records at ND.

at least the other guys being named fricking played, most in the NFL.

That’s cool and all except for the fact that Shepard’s NFL career lasted 7 years, which is more than most if not all guys mentioned in this thread.

He’s 16-3 as a starter and has his team ranked number one in the country

He hasn’t been a stud, but in the context of this thread, what a retarded answer

To start, Noel Devine is a WVU legend. Great college career, just too small for NFL.

Most hyped I remember are as follows:
- Tate Martell
- Spencer Rattler (redeemed himself at USCe a bit)
- Bryce Brown
- Tristan Leigh had a lot of hype in HS but didn’t do much at Clemson
- Anthony Alfano
- Arik Gilbert
- Justin Flowe the LBer
- Marvin Wilson
- Speedy Noil

I’m surprised it took this long for McKnight to get mentioned. The hype and race to get him was insane.

Yeah, the Shepard rant doesn't really make a lot of sense. He definitely wasn't the all world player we expected, but he was a consistent contributor at LSU, and wasn't some total bust like Clifton Garrett. He then went on to play in the NFL for 7 years.
