No. 10 LSU suffered a heartbreaking 35-34 overtime loss to Kentucky on Saturday night at Kroger Field in Lexington, dropping the Tigers to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in SEC play.

LSU appeared to be in position to escape with a victory after taking a 27-24 lead in the fourth quarter on a 41-yard trick-play touchdown pass from wide receiver Jackson Harris to Roman Mothershed.

However, Kentucky tied the game with a 33-yard field goal in the closing seconds of regulation to force overtime.

Quarterback Sam Leavitt opened overtime with a 15-yard touchdown run to put LSU ahead 34-27, but Kentucky answered with a one-yard touchdown run from CJ Baxter.

Rather than kick the extra point, Kentucky head coach Will Stein elected to go for two. Quarterback Kenny Minchey took a draw up the middle for the game-winning conversion, handing LSU its second loss of the season.

The Tigers had opportunities to put the game away late in regulation, but a costly Leavitt fumble and an inability to run out the clock helped keep Kentucky alive.

LSU also surrendered several big plays, including a 77-yard run by Baxter on Kentucky's first offensive snap and a 55-yard punt return touchdown by Brock Coffman in the first half.

The Tigers will look to bounce back next Saturday, October 17, when they host Mississippi State at Tiger Stadium.

Terrible and incompetent defense on the 2 point conversion

We also got screwed on the ref failing to call false start. It was clearly done before Kentucky tried to call a time out.

Can't believe he didn't push for 1 yard and end the game in regulation

That was a brutal loss. Really poor coaching effort at the end of the 4th. Just really really disappointing.

Inexcusable loss to the assest of arse teams.

This is a perfect example of why NIL is bad for college football. As long as they get paid they don't have to play hard if they don't want to. That game looked rigged to me.

STUPID coaching. I knew as most people did when Kentucky spread out their formation it was going to be a QB draw just like it was the OTHER time they did it in the game. Not rocket science, coaches...that formation has been used for QB draws for DECADES!

Everyone’s going to pile on Baker but the D gave up 6pts in the second half. That our exorbitantly paid offensive genius couldn’t find more than 10 against this UK defense…that there is going to cost us the next 4-5 games

It’s Blake. I’ve been saying this but yall keep excusing him because he plays well against terrible offenses. The longer we keep him the longer we will be held back from a playoff run.

Awful! Offense, defense and special teams coaching was pathetic. Even BK could have done a better job, save LSU 10s of millions
