Jimmy Clausen?
So he makes this list depending on how you feel about how that turned out.

I think Perrilloux would have been a good starter. Just never made it to that point.

Dj Ukelele and considering the money for Bryce underwood, it’ll be Bryce as a clear cut number 1 when this question is brought up in the future.

Didn’t he announce his commitment at the College Football Hall of Fame?

Russell Shepard
it's absolutely this. at least the other guys being named fricking played, most in the NFL. Shepard was a top 5 recruit and didn't even play in college

That felt like the first era of recruiting tapes with a banger soundtrack being loaded onto YouTube and future college players going viral. Noel Devine & Sam McGuffie with his hurdle, just the way we talked about them, so much glazing.
Devine ran for 4,300 yds at West Virginia. He just happened to be like 5'6'' 160 lbs so he was done after college.

Kipper was also best friends with his agent

Ryan Perrilloux was one of the most sought out recruits at the time.
Since the title of this thread is “never delivered”, I don’t think you can count RP. He started and won the SEC championship game, that put LSU in position to play for the national title.
That’s pretty big.
(And for those in the know….his special teams contributions!)

There was a Notre Dame quarterback in the 1990s who was supposed to win two Heismans.

Bryce Brown and Arik Gilbert easily

Ron Powlus?

I’ll throw in Kyle Wright. Was an uber-hyped recruit from California, who could have gone anywhere in America, and never really did much at Miami
If I remember correctly, Chris Leak was ranked ahead of him so Wright was not that super hyped

Lemming was the only one that had Leak ranked ahead of Wright. Wright was a consensus top-5 national recruit.
