This is absolutely ridiculous.

Problem is no one really cared about them in NJ either.
May as well just move them to Vegas.

Mets and Jets are a very vocal minority. Usually not real New Yorkers.

NFL: Giants or Jets
MLB: Mets or Yankees (probably way more NYY for younger fans though)
NBA: Knicks
NHL: Rangers (older fans), Devils (younger fans)

I’m sure the NBA has determined financially that two NYC markets is the right call, but the Knicks are the only team in town that unites the entire city/metro. The other three sports are all divided, It’s definitely not 50/50 for each of them, but each franchise provides value. No one cares about the Nets. They barely gained any following during the KD years when the Knicks were floundering. And because NYK has a complete stranglehold even more, Silver might as well move the Nets to Nashville or Vegas, and NY can use Barclays as another concert venue.

Sir, this is a Wendy’s.

Long Islanders tend to support teams based or with ties to Long Island, so Mets, Jets, Islanders, and I'd guess Nets.

Long Island is all Knicks. Nobody cares about the Nets.

This post makes total sense. Especially considering no one in NY cares about the Nets at all.

The Brooklyn Nets averaged 17,428 fans per game during the regular season, successfully filling the Barclays Center to 99.3% of its 17,548 capacity

Def makes sense for them to move out of the city to Nashville or something.

No fans. No revenue. No one in or around NYC cares about the Nets.

The Barclays Center is one of the best arenas in the league and has a massive population to pull from. Brooklyn can certainly support the franchise. If the won a championship, there would be tons of fans coming out saying how they have always been a fan of the team. It makes no sense to pull a profitable team from a great location, playing in a top tier arena.

They will never be more beloved than the Knicks, not even close. But their support isn't terrible. They still have solid attendance, even though they have one of the worst rosters in the entire league.

Hell, they might just be the worst. I mean their best player is Michael Porter Jr, who was probably the 4th most important player on the Nuggets.

Brooklyn has a distinct identity from the rest of the city. Having the Nets there is a way to tap into that.

Although it would have been better to put them there back when there were more of the old Dodgers fans still around.

Yeah there is just a bunch of nonsense in this thread. I have been to a few Nets games this year and frankly the stadium/experience is better than MSG. ETA the courtside experience / private club Carbone is the single best thing I have seen at any sports game.

Of course the knicks have a ton more fans but Barclays/Nets is doing totally fine considering how bad the team is. They would be insanely dumb to pull them out.

Nets and Islanders should both move.

Mets, Nets, and Islanders all have the same business model. Tap into the 7M ppl who live on Long Island. But by keeping a toe in NYC, you lose any identity other than being a little brother to the true NYC franchises

It’s garbage like the new MetLife stadium. Soulless and the staff is bush league compared to MSG.

Terrible sound system for concerts too. Nets are a joke now that they’ve been in Brooklyn and are better off moving somewhere else.

I never thought about that.

At least the Mets have won a World Series in my lifetime. The Nets have never won an NBA championship, and the Jets won the Super Bowl back in 1969.

The Islanders wanted to be named the Veterans when they joined the NHL in 1972. Nets, Jets, Mets, Vets. The NHL said no. Instead, the Islanders played at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

The Islanders are also the only franchise out if those 4 who have ever been consistently worth a shite. Their dynasty in the early 80s was legendary.

Even being the clear #2 team in a massive market is probably a more profitable business venture than being the only team in a much smaller market. That's really all the owners (er...governors) care about.

That said, I think the Clippers should go back to San Diego. The city only has one major sports franchise now (Padres) and the fans support the team (by % of attendance relative to stadium capacity) better than nearly every team in MLB. Plus, SD fans love to have a rivalry with LA teams. The Clippers will always be in the shadow of the Lakers. Even if they have success. Move them just a few hours south and it could become something closer to OKC (if the team is winning, of course)

The majority of actual New Yorkers that I know and work with are Mets fans. They are a beleaguered bunch.
