The Nets should relocate.

I’m sure the NBA has determined financially that two NYC markets is the right call, but the Knicks are the only team in town that unites the entire city/metro. The other three sports are all divided, It’s definitely not 50/50 for each of them, but each franchise provides value.

No one cares about the Nets. They barely gained any following during the KD years when the Knicks were floundering. And because NYK has a complete stranglehold even more, Silver might as well move the Nets to Nashville or Vegas, and NY can use Barclays as another concert venue.

The Knicks own the city. Completely different than most other 2-team situations in the same city, where fanbases are split at least somewhat down the middle. No one cares about the Nets, and it’d be better if they just relocated.

Not sure what’s so difficult for you/others to comprehend…

Someone wrote a letter into the Bill Simmons podcast and same up with the best ideas I’ve heard in a while.

The Nets should focus on international players.

The Knicks will always be New York, but the Nets could be for those that have transplanted, or are not in New York, love basketball and want a team to root for.

Maybe they can swing a trade of Porter and some picks for Markkanen

Then sign Porzingis and do a sign and trade of Rui for Clayton

Lean into something different.

Nets have a decent shot at any Free agent being in Brooklyn. Harden, KD and Kyrie dont make a super team in Nashville

the Clippers are even worse in relevance in Los Angeles and they're doing fine.

The 2010s were the Clippers best decade and the Lakers had their worst. had Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, signed 2x Finals MVP Kawhi in his prime over the Lakers. That did nothing to help them.

I was coming to mention this. It’s a great idea TBH.

Do you live in NYC or have some kind of inside knowledge?

Both parents are from there and tons of family (aunts/uncles/cousins) live in the area.

I acknowledged in my OP that financially it’s probably wise from the NBA. If even 2% out of a 20 million metro care, that’s still a lot of people cumulatively. Wasn’t meant to be a completely literal analysis… but they are the biggest “irrelevant” franchise in North American sports. Even worse than the Clippers, who can now try to play for the Orange County market a bit with their move.

I still think the Clippers advertisements that were taking passive aggressive shots at the Lakers during that time wasn't a good move.

New Jersey could be a good landing spot.

I think that was a solid campaign. Trying to go for the grittier, working class folks in LA (i.e. most people in LA) in contrast with all the celebs and folks who attend Lakers games for status. Clippers tickets are probably less expensive too.

Their new ownership did though… they were no longer a Donald Sterling joke

The Yankees seem to own the town as well, not like the Knickerbockers though.

Yankees, Giants and Rangers are the majority for sure, but Mets, Jets and Isles have a substantial minority. But virtually nobody cares about the Nets.

Just saw this Tweet too, brutal: LINK

They would be foolish to leave NY and the Tri-State area. I thought leaving New Jersey was a mistake. They and the Devils do have a fan base in suburban NJ. The New Jersey burbs or Northern New Jersey have about 3.9 million people. For most of my life they have been the New Jersey Nets.

If I had Musk money I'd build a 35,000 seat baseball stadium in New Jersey and get a team to move or get an expansion team. The New York Metropolitan are and Northern NJ can support a 3rd baseball team.

They should move back to Jersey and be The Northern NJ Sopranos. The mascot can be gabagool.
