You'll have teams that go 8-4, going 5-4 in conference play losing to all 3 of their major rivals, still contending for playoff spots.

A complete garbage season and you make the playoffs.

But it lets smaller teams believe they have a chance!

There is someone in a dark cloak trying to make sure and ruin everything good about college football

It's really a bummer these entities don't listen to the fans who consume the product.

Because they know they are fine as long as the fans consume the product.

A disgruntled fan and a happy fan are one in the same to them. All that matters is that the fan is watching.

8 seems to be the sweet spot where you would actually have some interesting matchups although I'd prefer it go back down to 4

I'm ok with 6, with seeds 1 and 2 getting byes.

No automatic qualifiers. Not for conference champs, not for G5, and sure in the frick not for Notre Dame.

This is the way.

They need a reality check then. This shite is already turning a lot of the Boomers and Gen Xers off and they are their biggest clientele. Gen Z and Gen Alpha are not watching football as much as the previous generations.

Sounds like a great way to have emptier stadiums for big games. This will negatively impact the atmosphere at places like Tiger Stadium, The Swamp, Ohio State, etc.

Ok so then it's enough slots that they'll give us every conference champ and wild cards right? RIGHT?

You saw it last weekend. LSU throttled a ranked rival in the second half and it sounded like it used to for Kentucky at 11am.

Late games will be more meaningful for most teams, since they will have a chance to get in the playoff, or crash and miss out.

Awesome. It was inevitable. Bowl games are such a waste

Yeah, this is just replacing bowl games which is good. We will see if the first two rounds are all blowouts though, for the first few years.

If so, they may need to tweak it.

Is it?

Other than message board and social media outrage, it seems as though boomers and Gen Xers are still watching because the TV numbers keep growing.

Millenials fall in that category too.

Are you going to watch Bama this weekend?

Only way this is at all palatable is if the first 3 rounds are on college campus of the higher seed.

They're just saying the quiet part out loud now.

Not that everyone doesn't already know it's all about the money, but at least try to have some semblance of pageantry about the game itself, Jesus.

“CFB leaders”

Have leaders always just maximized income for themselves with nearly no other goal or people in mind?

You guys who think that because a few of your friends don’t like expansion means that nobody does is ridiculous. The vast majority of fans want the playoff expansion. Just because some SEC fans or Ohio St fans who always got invited to previous playoffs don't doesn’t mean fans of others don’t want it.

Last year the #10 seed made it to the Natty when everyone said no seed above 6 would ever have a chance against the juggernauts. Then the juggernauts were exposed as paper tigers.

Expansion has already proved that teams that “couldn’t ever win” can win.

I totally understand certain fanbases don’t want it because it makes the road harder than simply be invited to a 2 or 4 team playoff but fans will love it when another 10 fanbases are included. Hope is what keels fans coming back.

You are going to have 8-4 teams in a 24 team playoff. It’s clown world.
