I know both teams have mercenaries as did Indiana. Cignetti is a way better coach than Kiffen. It’s not even close. I just think Ole Miss had the better QB, playing at home, with a known staff. Kiffen is a name but what has he won or proven other than he can get paid tons of money for flash. I love Kiffen as characters like him make the sport fun but he’s gotta eventually win something, anything. Spurrier was awesome because he had the flash and win conference and national titles. The only thing Kiffen won was Layla and he even lost that in the end.
As an outside observer yet huge college fan I fully expect Ole Miss to beat them quite easily. Mercenaries often fail in those circumstances so I don’t see LSU being able to hang no matter how much they spent on coaches and players. Maybe by seasons end but not in the first half of the season. But the world will be watching,
So you guys really still believe that people are worrying about the SEC or how great they are or aren’t? You guys are just funny. The SEC is what it is - a good conference with some good teams, mid teams, and bad teams. Just because you fill huge stadiums doesn’t make it any more than that. Sure, your games get over the top publicity because of ESPN, but no one is scared anymore.

I love SEC football because this is where I grew up and have lived most of my life but the shine is way off. There is no Spurrier or Bear or undefeated teams. There are no NFL defenses like Bama and UGA recently had. Where are the Heisman front runners? Not in the SEC right now.
Dawg, you are correct but SEC fans have been brainwashed to make them feel good when another SEC team wins while their team is sitting at home. I’m a GT guy and was screaming for Indiana to beat Miami because I freaking hate Miami and I don’t care if anyone wants to make fun of the ACC or if it hurts my SOS. You know what hurts my SOS? My team losing not hoping another team wins.

And anyone who posts anything about regular season wins meaning anything are just morons. It’s all about playoff games. UGA, Bama, and Ohio St all won “meaningful” regular season games yet no one cares because they lost when it counted. Miami lost their 2 biggest regular season games and they ran thru the playoffs.
I agree. Things can go south fast and in this new era it’s gonna happen to teams no one expected. I’m not saying 3-9 bad, but there are going to be a lot more 6-6 and 7-5 teams in the future and because fanbases will continually compare the past to the present they’ll scream and yell and make things worse. The talented players are going to be spread around seeking money and playing time which create highly competitive games. That’s all I ever wanted. If my team goes 6-6 yet we’re competitive and showed up then that’s fine. Eventually every team will have a 10-2 when things align - see Vandy recently and Miami. Not dominant, but had great years.
And I have no clue if the ACC will improve in the middle or lower tier but at least now they have a choice to pay or not pay. I could ask the same about middle SEC teams are no different than ACC teams. Auburn has become Duke. Arkansas is BC. Miss St is Syracuse. I could go on and on. Heck, Tennessee is UNC. But you guys are blinded by preseason polls and believe them. Look at Tenneseee. They’l be ranked but lose every decent game because that’s what they do.
Johnny,
It’s still early in the process. This isn’t an instant thing. It will take several cycles just like it takes years for a giant to crumble. Look at Bama. Saban retired several years back and yet Bama still has a pulse because of him and the draw. But no one can argue they are slowly declining. We’ve seen this time and time again when a legend retires or something cataclysmic happens in the sport. Look at FSU after Bowden. They hung in for another decade. I would say unlimited transfers and bagmen for all is the biggest change in college football history.

And look at UGA. Even with still having Kirby, top 3 classes, and Clemson, Auburn, and Bama being down they still haven’t been to the Natty in 3 years. Meanwhile schools like Indiana, Miami, Michigan, etc have and none of us would say they are above UGA overall. But clearly something is happening and it’s not just bad luck because we watched the games and they were just straight up beat without flukes.

No, but GT has 10 4 stars committed for 2027 that would have committed to SEC teams. We normally have 2 or 3 per class. Those are players that Kentucky, Auburn, Florida aren’t getting. And that’s just one team.

I get that UGA is still getting the prime beef players but look at Bama’s recruiting. Outside of UGA, it’s not nearly the same when the little guys are now buying players
JohnnyU,
You are living in the past my friend. Yes, the ACC has been mediocre but in case you haven’t noticed a lot of ACC are buying players that would have gone to the SEC these days. Over a 2-3 year cycle that will bring them up and SEC teams down. Heck, you are seeing that right now with the BIG. It’s not random luck that no SEC team has been in the Natty 3 years. That’s a result of action by other teams buying their players and weakening the SEC. You guys can stick your head in the sand and call guys like me names but the results speak. The ACC did what the SEC hasn’t done in several years now and it wasn’t by random luck. The SEC has been slow in adapting and their coaches have brought in the wrong portal guys. Look at Tennessee and their stud who is already off the team.
I have no dog in the fight but you would have said the same thing about Indiana two years. The future under a payment system is going to be a lot different than the past. The day may come when folks look back at this period of time and say “those guys had a chance to get X but they didn’t to keep Y instead”. I believe the big schools in rural areas have an expiration date under a payment system - they simply don’t have the deep pockets and all payments and coaching being even would I high end player rather live in a rural area or a more populated area. The future will be interesting.

I know if I was a high end player I’d rather play in Miami than any SEC town.
NYC will eat this dude up over the years. He’s the new shiny toy right now but eventually even moron New Yorkers will get tired of this dude telling them what they can or can’t do. He won’t be able to stop himself because the power makes people like him drunk.
Some of you guys simply are incapable of not letting go of the past and thinking of the future. Someone said “why would you bring in 2 more Vandy’s”. Did you not see Indiana, who was way worse than Vandy or UVA or UNC, completely flip the script? That is the future.

With everyone now being able to use the bagman to buy players ANY school can win. So, now, you have to look at schools with money and who has been oppressed to see what the future will look like. Vandy, UNC, UVA, Indiana types have big time money. Sure, they don’t have 70K stadiums and rabid fanbases yet because the bagman system kept them down while Auburn types won, but the reality is a lot of so called football schools that emerged using bagmen simply can’t financially compete in a fair era. Sure, it’s gonna take a 10 to 20 year period but if the Indiana story hasn’t shown what the future is then I expect a lot of fans to continue to be perplexed.
GT and Miami are locks for the BIG? Both are AAU, both have money, both in a new region for the BIG, and both have shown a commitment to sports and more importantly both are highly ranked academic schools who bring in big money outside of sports. The SEC would be smart or get UNC and UVA. VT is an interesting case because they have a rabid fanbase and can be good at football but they bring absolutely nothing on the academic or outside money side of the equation.
All that matters is September and October.
Some of you simply don’t see the big picture when it comes to expansion. It isn’t just about who is good at football today or just about football. It’s about the school in general and money. You guys laugh at UVA but don’t realize they are freaking loaded. Just because they have been putting money elsewhere other than bagmen doesn’t mean they couldn’t pull an Indiana. No different than most of these huge SEC stadium type teams who fill a stadium six times a year but have mid level money.

And to the poster who said the SEC has multiple contenders this year - have you not been watching defense in the SEC the past several years? It doesn’t exist outside of Kirby. Until the SEC gets back to playing defense they are a pretender.
Nobody wanted it this way. The players sued and a court agreed with them. You are yelling to no one.

But now that we are here there are 2 options- 1) deal with it and root for your team like you’ve been doing, or 2) whine year after year while threatening to stop watching.

I didn’t want it this even though I love the portal and have no problem with everyone now being paid. My problem was with the NCAA for decades letting certain teams cheat while hammering lesser caliber teams. You can’t have a fair sport with different levels of rules. Right now is the first time every team in college football is playing by the same rules - because there are no rules so teams can’t cheat rules that don’t exist.
Scoob, thank you for being someone who gets it. The BIG is slowly putting the SEC on an island and the last 30 years of SEC glory won’t be able to save it no matter how many fans want to talk about past heydays. Right now today, the SEC has 1 legit title contender - UGA. That’s the same number as the ACC.
I hear you and understand what you ares saying but when you step back you’ll realize that’s a you issue regarding excitement. I know for a lot of fanbases season ticket sales are high and the excitement is building. Miami fans are pumped. VT fans are pumped. LSU fans are pumped. A&M fans are pumped. Texas fans are pumped. GT has sold more season tix the past few years than we’ve seen in decades. I presume UGA fans are pumped as they are one of the top 2 contenders with a returning proven QB and young talent.

But I do understand a lot of fans who normally take 9 wins for granted are no longer into it when they see losses to finish out a season instead of wins.
Kajon, you say you don’t feel the same passion from fans. I’d ask, what fans are you hanging around? If it’s your small little bubble then welcome to my world for the past 60 years when my bubble knew we were going to lose a game because the other team had paid for players.

Do you not understand for every fanbase that feels down right now there is another fanbase that feels up and can’t wait for the season? You SEC fans are just spoiled and now that you don’t get a new bike every year at Christmas now you think the holiday sucks. It’s still the same, it’s just different kids getting new bikes.

If Ole Miss or Souh Carolina had just done what Indiana has done over the past 2 years you guys would be screaming how much tougher your conference is and how great all your teams are when a has been team can win a Natty. But because it’s a BIG school in a place where it snows y’all want to act like the sport is dying. If anything, the sport is growing as you have more interested fans in the midwest. What would really help the sport is for USC or UCLA to become good again so the west coast has teams they can support.
Classic, you are showing yourself to not have a clue about the overall world. If you are talking athletics only then sure beat your chest over the past. But these schools know the big picture money between the SEC and BIG isn’t close. There are 6 other days outside of Saturday and the BIG dominates all 6 of those and have now own 3 straight. Step outside of your bubble and you’ll see the SEC is the regional conference while the BIG is national. You may not like it and your view is probably insulated because you are in this southern bubble, but the BIG has the power not the SEC.
You do know the players don’t even know you guys are alive yet you are sitting their as grown men crying because your old butt can’t take the 15 seconds to us google for your team roster when the device is literally in your hand.

And sure the novelty will wear off in about 70 years for Indiana type fans like it has for you.

The bottom line is this board has become a whinefest because your teams are losing. We NEVER saw these type of threads when LSU, Bama, UGA, Tenn, were winning Natties. Instead, you guys made thread after thread about how everyone else sucked and that our coaches sucked and our fans sucked because we weren’t selling out stadiums for 6-6 teams. It’s just funny how quickly the bullies become crybabies over 19 year olds.
