That's actually an interesting point -- part of the reason it was so difficult to break the bowl system is the big bowls had these committees or whatever that fed from the trough and basically threw parties, traveled a lot under the guise of scouting teams and bought gifts for themselves with the bowl foundation money. I think it was school administrator and conference commissioner types. I don't think the system is quite as corrupt now in the sense of individuals profiteering from the system, but maybe I'm naive. Now, I do think once the bean counters could show conferences and schools that they would make more off of the playoff than the old system, that is what generated real change. I hate 24 teams, but think of what a cash cow that is. They already started to bid out some games to networks other than ESPN/ABC. You'll just get more of that now.

Not that everyone doesn't already know it's all about the money, but at least try to have some semblance of pageantry about the game itself, Jesus.

They got Saban running around saying we gotta cut spending but not for the coaches. The mask is off. Mo money mo money mo money, but for us.

Just make the damn thing so every team is in. Who wouldn't want to watch a school like UMass lose 118-0?

Last year the #10 seed made it to the Natty when everyone said no seed above 6 would ever have a chance against the juggernauts. Then the juggernauts were exposed as paper tigers.

That tenth seed was Miami and they have been a juggernaut before and have five national championships to their name in the last 45 years. The only other college football program with more during that time is (checks notes) Alabama. The year before that another college football power named Ohio State won it all as an eighth seed. I don't think you need me to go over their bona fides.

On the surface, 2025 Indiana might appear as an aberration but they finished in the Top 10 in 2024 and made the CFP, losing to the eventual runner-up in the process (Notre Dame - another traditional power).

it makes the road harder than simply be invited to a 2 or 4 team playoff

“Invited” is an interesting choice of words here.

GT better be pushing for a full 64 team playoff the way things are going.

Sure why not?

College Football has never gotten it right really so why not just keep moving the bar?

They really are a minor league NFL now.

But it doesn't necessarily mean the product will be better but take it or leave it, they are competing with the NFL now in my opinion.

Of course it’s going to 24. This was a foregone conclusion when the BCS finally ripped the bowl system death grip from the sport.

And everyone loves it and will love it. If some of you don’t for whatever nostalgic reason you have then enjoy hating the sport. But it’s all been exposed as a joke. You guys talked about the rabid SEC fanbases and being over to take over stadiums, etc, etc, and yet within 2 years of being good, the freaking Indiana fanbase took over Mercedes Benz as if they were UGA or Tennessee fans. That proves that it’s all about having good players rather than location or culture. You guys have been smelling your own farts for so long that you don’t realize that everyone farts.

Lol. TAMU is trash this season, and had just been beat by two scores at home by that powerhouse Kentucky squad.

Did you expect LSU fans to think this was some big game? They were only ranked because voters refuse to believe they’re wrong with their preseason assumptions. There is a very real possibility they don’t finish .500.

clearly what you are doing here.

Keep lying to yourself but college football sold out a long time ago but if you want to keep waving the flag for them then keep going.

I was told here this week that the only reason Notre Dame made that National Title was Carson Beck was injured and Notre Dame got to play that turd Indiana squad who had the core nucleus of the next seasons champion.

Its hilarious. All the people in here bitching about more college football.

I guarantee if LSU is an 11 seed hosting 22 Penn State or UCLA in the first round, Tiger Stadium will be sold out.

Illinois state got an at large bid in FCS last year and made the championship game

Dude, it’s not just me flag waving. Did you not watch the playoff games? They were SOLD OUT and the ratings were high. So, I guess a lot of fans are flag waving. I just watched Texas-Tennessee and those were a lot of flag wavers in that stadium. And in a week when UGA plays Bama I expect a lot of flag wavers. And when both of those teams make the playoffs I suspect those games will be sold out too.

This idea that the sport is dying because it’s not the past is exactly what fans always say. I remember my grandfather whining about the NFL-AFL merger and how those teams couldn’t stand a chance and were inferior. By Super Bowl 3 that was exposed as a lie. Heck, the old guard stood in the way of #1 vs. #2 for 70 years. Then when we go the BCS everyone loved it.

The only real question is how long until the next generation puts asterisks on every non-playoff Natty. The sooner the better.

Yeah, this is just replacing bowl games which is good. We will see if the first two rounds are all blowouts though, for the first few years.

If so, they may need to tweak it.

Exactly. At least theres more on the line then those terrible bowl games

by RunningJacketYou guys who think that because a few of your friends don’t like expansion means that nobody does is ridiculous. The vast majority of fans want the playoff expansion. Just because some SEC fans or Ohio St fans who always got invited to previous playoffs don't doesn’t mean fans of others don’t want it.

You can expand to 100 teams and Georgia Tech will still
