Nike stock peaked in 2022, more than a half decade after Kaepernick
No correlation.
No correlation.

Competition is eating their lunch. All the older apparel brands are down big arse smaller not focused companies are taking market share.

Nike abandoned the affluent white running/cross training markets. All of those non-traditional brands are now reaping the benefits.
Karen Smith-Dunnaway and Kaicieigh Alexis both want to show off her Fabletics and Hokas.

quote:Yup. This is what started their problems. They tried to go DTC and it backfired big time, they recognozes it but it does appear it was too late
TLDR version - they abondoned specialty shops in favor of online shopping 10 yrs ago and now can't get that marketshare back. And restructured like a PE company internally, all to their detriment.

Nike Stock has COLLAPSED 77% in the last 5 years.
Look at the timeline.. Starting in 2021 Nike pushed annual Be True Pride collections featuring customizable shoes with every LGBTQ flag, including the trans flag, and gave $625,000 to 18 LGBTQ organizations.
In 2022 they kept it going with rainbow SB Dunks.
In 2023 they doubled down with a Dylan Mulvaney campaign where the trans influencer modeled women’s athletic wear, plus a “No Pride, No Sport” push and collaborations with trans artists.
Parallel to all of that, they rolled out formal race-based DEI targets aimed at increasing minority representation in hiring and leadership by 2025, targets that are currently being investigated by the EEOC for creating a pattern of discrimination against white workers.
I absolutely LOVE seeing the stock crash and hope it continues — go WOKE go BROKE.

They also ran bullshite Colin Kaepernick ads at the peak too. Like Jordan said - Republicans buy shoes too. Nike should have listened
This literally has nothing to do with their current troubles.
Apple ran a commercial with a Black Lives Matter sticker in the background and celebrates pride more than any other company.

Saw a podcast today with Magic Johnson talking about when he came into the league. Nike, Adidas, Converse all offered contracts, Adidas and Converse offered cash. Being a fairly new company Nike could only offer some stock. Magic saying that coming from a poor family money meant more at that time so he went with Adidas.
They asked him today if he went with Nike what would it be worth today?
5 billion dollars.

With branding it can take time to devalue when at the top. Kap was the start.
Also, you can’t compare shoes to technology lol. Apple is a tech with many moving parts. Its much harder to change to a different tech the way our tech world works. It happens but not on the same scale. If Elon ever produces a viable phone then it will happen.
Shoes are worn and worn out and you replace them with any off the shelf shoe you like. Try em on, pay and out the door. No tech involved, no transfer of data. Nothing to takes weeks to learn new product. Just put in like all shoes. Done and done.
This Nike spiral has been a long time in the works. Its not just one thing but the wokeness makes it so easy for a huge part of population to just stop. Bud is your living example, its not tech either. Even though Bud had changed and now all American they will never recover some of their customers. Just like Nike won’t either.
An example is someone who drank Bud forever, mostly out of habit it was a comfort thing to them. Then they trans up an ad and offend hard core customers. Customer now tries Yuengling and finds it tastes better. That drinker is never going back. Same with Nike, all their woke BS turned buyers away and they lost those customers forever. And this along with all the other issues mentioned like giving up brick and mortar space.
Even though some others are down (as someone mentioned) they are not down due to wokeness and will recover. Chyna economy is down and thats hurting some shoe makers too

Compared to brands like Asics and Brooks, Nike sucks.
This times 1000. Looks and brand recognition will only get you so far. The first time I tried on Brooks and realized the comfort I've been missing out on, I never looked back.

Adidas has been far superior for awhile, especially shoes. I never see Nike here in Asia, very rare.
