Sort of similar, I bought some Lean Cuisine meals a few years back. Turned it over to see how long to microwave, and I forget which company it was that owned the Lean Cuisine brand, but it was either Hershey or Nestle. Get them fat on your chocolate, get them thin on your diet meals.

This is absolutely true. Long gone are the Tinker Hatfield days of creating original and influential designs. I can't think of a shoe that Nike has created in the last 20 years that had the impact of what they were doing in the 80's and 90's. Most of Nike products you see on shelves is nothing but Jordans, Dunks, Air Force 1's and other designs from 30+ years ago.

Learned that one the hard way ordering some running shoes online several years ago. Same brand and similar model to what I had been running in, but they gave me all sorts of issues. Shoes I actually run and workout in I don't try to go cheap anymore. It isn't worth saving $30 if it causes you injuries. I still haven't told my wife how much my cycling shoes cost. She would freak out. But they will last a long time and after going cheap twice looking for something that worked, I finally went to a bike shop, talked with their shoe expert, tried on probably a dozen different pairs and tried them out on a stationary bike they had in the shop.

They took a good thing and thought multiplying it was the answer. Jordan drops used to cause people to save up and go wait in line to buy them. It was an event. Now LBJ, Giannis, Luka, Tatum, Zion, Ja, and Devin Booker all have signature shoes. Nobody gives a crap.
They are lucky they have the agreements with the sports leagues as well as the top collegiate programs outside of a few. I dont have a strong opinion on Nike, but that would change the second UGA decided to go with Adidas or Under Armour. Oh hell no, have you seen the crap they put out? That new fly Nike polo for a new season was a thing. However, just like they did with their running shoes, they are opening the door for Onward and others to poach that market. They didnt see the fact that things changed and people will pay $150 for shoes or more than $70 for a comfortable polo. I try not to, but surveying the amount of Hokas, Rhobacks, etc out there, a hell of a lot of people will.

I do agree as well. Nike is Nike. And what's old becomes new again. I think it may take another decade or so, but as long as they keep sponsoring the most elite of the elite and fund the major leagues, the greatest athletes in the world will always have the swoosh.
That was always their best marketing plan. Let elite athletes do what they do wearing the swoosh and leverage that to the public. It's the later part they've had a hard time with since.

Adidas is down 50%, Under Armour is down from its $51 a share high to $5, even Puma is down 75%. This is more industry wide than just Nike
