Dude is fat, but he was in position and moving out of the way of the ball so the SS could get it. No way he knew the 2B was coming. shite happens.

Pergaps, but I still think obesity should be a disqualifier.

Dude could have been 6'2", 215lbs in real life, and in peak form; and the results would have been the same. He misread the fielders
But there needs to be a certain level of fitness for all officials that are required to be in the field of play.

Has this ever happened with him before? Is this a one off?
Something unfortunate happened. 1 time in the YEARS this guy has been calling games.
And NOW the internet is calling him fat and obese insinuating he shouldn’t be out there.
Do some of you rage baiting MFers just post things without looking past what’s not even skin deep? What a stupid, dumbass post.
I’m getting more tired of the Internet more and more every day.

Career Summary
By virtually every measure used within the umpiring profession, Bill Miller has had an elite career:
* 27+ years as an MLB umpire
* MLB Crew Chief
* 5 World Series
* 9 League Championship Series
* 11 Division Series
* 7 Wild Card assignments
* 2 All-Star Games
* Multiple World Baseball Classics
Yeah, a real disqualifier, you immature child.

Imagine being triggered by calling someone who is fat and obese....fat and obese.

I’m 6’2” myself. I’ve been over 300 and under 200 in my lifetime. At no point during those decades of weight gain/loss did I ever resemble that tub of lard.

The Reds were down 7-0 in the bottom of the 7th. Not like they were going to win the game. The pitcher was being a bitch because the Big Dumper just took a grand slam dump on him three batters before.

Just working all those games doesn’t make you an elite umpire… they have those scoresheets for umpires now

Just like spelling on in TD?

A more nimble ump might be able to avoid the contact but that doesn’t mean the pitcher wasn’t being a douche nozzle. They aren’t mutually exclusive.

They get paid that bc of their Union, why do you think some airline captains are paid the same and New York construction workers, Chicago public school teachers are paid 6 figures, etc.

Why are they using umpires now for anything other than plays at the base and fair/foul.

Fat shaming is just so tired. It’s one of the few things I don’t truly get when it’s in situations that don’t impact you. Fat shaming the person spilling into your airline seat? Sure. He didn’t mess the play up because of his weight. On the contrary, you can have an in shape umpire suck at their job. Being chunky generally has no impact on someone’s ability to call a game. It’s all about reading plays, knowing situations, reacting quickly, and being firm in applying the rules.
