Fun talking about College athletics.

I’ve tolerated it for the last 3 years but the suggestions of private equity having control over programs will completely lose me.

Will I always watch the games, sure, but all the fun stories about players of interest that we are recruiting is a waste of time now and especially the TP being wide open it’s hard caring too deeply about any individual player because if he has a hard time he may transfer in the blink of an eye and be at Ole Miss next year.

They better get this shite under control because it’s not sustainable in any way.

I would imagine that deep down most people would agree with you.

Fun talking about College athletics

Then why did you start a thread to talk about it?

I don't have a problem with NIL and players getting their share for the revenue they are generating in collegiate athletics but only for the sports that bring in that revenue and it should be allocated accordingly

The one thing that has to change is the portal and you have to get some kind of commitment for the $ they are getting, it can't be for only one year at a time

This is not even a sustainable professional model

I'm sure the 16 year olds that think real life is like dynasty mode on video games are eating this up. People 25 and up that remember what it was like to be an "amateur student athlete" playing for your school and state pride probably hate it on at least some level.

My fear is that there's no way to rein it back in at this point. I shudder to think what CFB will look like when my little one is old enough to really want to get into it and follow it closely.

Because I’m frustrated that this has become the evolution of the game you dork.

I enjoyed the Hell out of all aspects of the college game, and now here we are worried about luring players with Monetary benefits and no longer the Love for the school in lots of cases.

Just wait until the players stop having to go to school there and they no longer caps on how much eligibility you have so there are 34 year old men playing "college ball"

That sounds to me like a minor league that should have zero affiliation with any university.

It was more fun when it seemed like the players represented the universities and appeared to be members of the universities.

You are watching a minor league that has shrugged off all connections beyond the university name and mascots, and that is even if you only considered that a veneer.

It doesn’t feel like college sports anymore because the college connection is at the thinnest it has ever been.

Welcome to the future.

National signing day used to be awesome... total waste now as there's a great chance that most of your signees will never see the field for your team.

I'm almost 63 and I was disabused of the notion of the "amateur student athlete" when I was in high school in the 70s. But many of those guys did play for the school they ended up at. And I think it is still true though to a lesser degree. But I do not think NIL alone created this issue, I think it was that ease of transferring that started it then NIL exacerbated it.

I think most of us are a bit put off by the way it is working in the offseason but I personally just put that aside and enjoy the season when it is here.

PE is something the NCAA could actually stop.

Cannot control players but they can control schools.

no school can pay profits to a non university entity and compete in college sports.

I certainly agree with what you are saying and for the most part I do the same to keep myself sane, the problem is I no longer care about the players individually.
Feels the same way I do about the Saints players now. I could care less if they are happy just win games because you are getting paid to.

College was different for me because I felt many of them Loved Louisiana and the school and that I identified with because I was the same way as just a student.
Now we have no commonalities and all I care about is W and L’s.

Mostly frustrated because I loved being all in on College sports.

The college connection is what has always made college sports special, but ironically it is now the college connection that is holding it back. If your contention is that college athletes are normal college students taking part in a university-sponsored activity, then legally you can't treat them differently than other college students. Other students can change schools every year if they choose, so athletes can't be barred from doing the same. Honestly I'm not sure there is any way around that other than making the athletes employees of the universities.

The VAST majority, including the ones that are getting paid, still do.
