The CFP isn’t controlled by the NCAA. The CFP voters could keep TTU out of the playoffs but the NCAA doesn’t have any teeth here.

NCAA should get CFP to issue a statement that TT will not be allowed postseason if Sorsby plays this year.

This is the type of ruling that'll only push the Big 10 and SEC closer together and more likely to form their own ruling committee to push the NCAA out. Which has long been needed but these dipshits at TT are making it happen now. And oh by the way, good job placing yourself down the conference realignment sheet jackasses

Shouldn't the FBI be arresting this guy for betting on his own team anyways

Where is the FBI

This is basically saying its okay for the players to gamble on their own team

I'm not intimately familiar with Sorsby's bets given how many he placed, but how is this not illegal at a federal level?

I obviously haven't read the ruling, but this is essentially the Judge saying that NCAA does not have standing to do basically anything even for their most egregious offense

correct

...and the writing has been on the wall for a long time about this.

You know who is happy about this? Will Wade.

This will force Congress to act. Nobody will be happy about the results.

If the NCAA appeals, the case would go before the Texas Seventh Court of Appeals. Notably, all four justices in the Texas Seventh Court of Appeals are Texas Tech Law graduates

Or, remove TT as a NCAA member institution if it knowingly plays a NCAA-mandated ineligible player.

NCAA is a member organization. Schools should not have a preordained right to belong.

5-10 years ago I never thought this would be the case, but my interest in college athletics is waning more and more and pushing me to getting more interested in the pro leagues. I've always watched NFL, NBA, etc. but never really got invested in it as much as i did with college sports. But at this point, you have college players making more than some pros, unlimited free agency, no salary cap, players transferring/opting out for no real reason other than bag chasing, and now players gambling on/against their own teams with little to no consequences. Its literally the worst part of professional sports all wrapped into one with no regulations. At that point, I'm just going to go watch the pros that have actually figured out how to regulate/manage these things, have teeth to enforce their rules, have consistent playoff rules that don't change on a yearly basis because every team wants their slice of the pie, and have more parity in general

It's pretty hilarious that being in a small college town in the middle of nowhere is now an advantage because all the judges went to your school

[Not only did he bet on his own team. He bet the UNDER for passing yards]

How is this any different than point shaving?

Exactly. Too many stupid fricking people that didn't see the obvious unintended consequences of paying players, letting kids transfers unlimited times, etc.

NCAA and CFP basically have to go to the mat on this issue. CFP would get sued I’m sure, but I think they have to force that fight.

Then they'll just do this same song and dance over again to put them back in.

It's shameful what this has become. Can't wait until people start suing to get little Johnny on the high school team after he didn't make it.

A judge in Lubbock ruled in favor of a Texas Tech player? Color me shocked.
