Where are you getting that from? Basketball reference shows Jokic then Jordan in career PER Also only 10 of top 25 are current.
Has a minimum of minutes played. Embiid is just below the threshold.

Embiid is 29
PER through age 29:
1. Jordan 29.8
2. Embiid 28.5
Jokic is 28.

When you manipulate stats like that it undermines even the good points you make.

I'm not "manipulating" stats. The dude has a PER approaching 36 this season.
Other sites have Embiid at the top. I am "ignoring and arbitrary threshold of a website"

Wow.
Could you imagine Embiid being covered man-to-man against the likes of these guys:
Craig Ehlo
Jim Paxson
Jeff Malone
Terry Teagle
Danny Ainge
Craig Hodges
Bob Hansen
Rolando Blackman
World B. Free
Marques Johnson
Walter Davis
Reggie Theus
Alvin Robertson
Clyde Drexler
Lewis Lloyd
Mike Woodson
Otis Birdsong
Byron Scott
Ricky Pierce
Vinnie Johnson
Randy Wittman
Gerald Wilkins
Al Wood
Trent Tucker
Clint Richardson
Joe Dumars
Chris Mullin
Michael Cooper
Eddie Johnson
Sedale Threatt
John Long
Ricky Sobers
Quintin Dailey
Mitchell Wiggins
Bernard Thompson
Terence Stansbury
Johnny Davis
T.R. Dunn
Elston Turner
Alfredrick Hughes
Lancaster Gordon
Michael Phelps
John Battle
Derek Smith
Steve Harris
Mike Glenn
Ron Brewer
Rick Carlisle
Dudley Bradley
Sam Vincent
Kevin McKenna
Willie White
Carl Henry
Freeman Williams
Tony Brown
Harold Keeling
Andrew Toney
Butch Carter
Jim Thomas
Derrick Rowland
Seriously, look at that list. THAT's who was guarding a prime Jordan 1 on 1 in Jordan's prime. The best players he faced in his prime were Clyde Drexler, Joe Dumars, Chris Mullin, and Michael Cooper
And only Joe Dumars was in the Eastern Conference, and we saw how the Bulls did against the Pistons.
Jordan's PER was so high in the 1980's because he was, compared to today, playing college bench warmers 90% of the time.

What’s an incredibly dishonest post. You want guards to cover Embiid? How about the reverse, try having Duop Reath guard Jordan and see how that goes.
Posted on 1/23/24 at 11:11 am to theunknownknight
the rules are far more beneficial to offense now, as are the analytical style of play.

You are comparing the career PER of a guy who doesn’t have the minimum
minutes to qualify to a full career including the end of his career when he was older and obviously had declined. It’s not an apples to apples comp.

Through 42 games, 1 over half a season, let’s see where he finishes. The full season record is Jokic 2 years ago. The previous was Chamberlain 60 years before that.

So cherry picking to suit your narrative.
Look I agree the game over all is better, the talent level is much better much deeper. That argument is undermined when you make unfair comparisons just to shite on an icon because the olds like him.

It’s no more of an unfair comparison/matchup than what Jordan actually played against. My point is that Jordan’s stats are way over inflated due to his DIRECT competition and the pace of the 1980s
Yet, people want to slam modern players for playing in the same scenarios, except more efficiently and against better players and defensive schemes today?
It’s hypocritical and the only way to justify it is to completely ignore the reality of what the 1980s were like.

NBA reference has a minimum requirement to record PER for a career at 15,000 minutes played. Embiid has played 13,583 minutes.
Interestingly enough, this is the only career stat they track with that requirement. He qualifies for the rest. Who's cherry picking again?

This thread is stupid. Joel and Jokic are all-time great players, and both have a couple more years of their prime still.
It's ok to marvel at the insane numbers these guys are putting up, while not trying to tear down Jordan.

Not his prime by any means. However if u take away the last 2 years Jordan PER is high af.
Win shares he is above all these guys. Jordan has like 4 of the top 10 PER seasons of all time

You’re the hypocrite spouting off nonsense about players and teams you know absolutely nothing about. You don’t know anything about the players of those eras. A lot of the players you listed were outstanding defenders, some much better than anyone playing today. To say that Alvin Robertson or the like was a joke just proves how ignorant you are. Pretending to be an expert on things you didn’t witness and know nothing about is truly stupid and that’s your entire post history on the matter.

PER is stacked for offense

And lots and lots of those players are great defenders who excel on defense and would do so today as well.

There's some damn good defenders on that list.
Posted on 1/23/24 at 12:43 pm to SlowFlowPro
There aren't 2 guys in the current NBA that could last 4 quarters against the Pistons with Laimbeer.
He would absolutely put them on the DL, not to mention that "Load Management" days would go thru the roof.
The game is so fricking soft now.

No player today can hold a flame to the Lakers and Celtics of the 80s, The Bad Boys of Detroit, the Bulls of the 90s, the early to mid 2000s Spurs, and the Shaq era Lakers. Today’s plays may be athletic and scoring machines but the defenses are trash. Everyone chases points. The quality of the game today is just rancid.
