The amount of no flags being thrown is ridiculous too though. Offensive lineman are lining up 3 yards off the los and false starting quite literally every play

So what’s the solution?

It’ll never happen because too much money and greed involved in our “modern world” nowadays but it doesn’t mean an old adage is any less true:

Sometimes, less is truly more.

We used to have nice breaks between our sports seasons. They are all only continuing to expand and blur together.

College Football used to end January 1st.

Super Bowl used to end usually by no later than mid-January.

MLB used to wrap up by October.

And so on….

There was never anything wrong with that.

Been here since the Saints got screwed against the rams. At the time people laughed at me saying this stuff is rigged and now look everyone is saying it because of the chiefs. I did not watch much of the playoffs so far either.

This. Think of the explosion of games on Saturday. Wall to Wall on Fox and ABC/ESPN. CBS....NBC in on the action with Big 10 games on Saturday night along with Notre Dame home games. Fox also has moved into Friday night.

Then the NFL with Monday and Thursday plus now Black Friday games.

It becomes a bit much by the beginning of November

I’ve got no clue how advertisers are getting a return on their investment at the prices they are paying

This is something that legitimately puzzles me. All the hype about the CFP, talk about how much it's worth with the extra games, etc. and then we go and get the same 5 damn commercials we've gotten all year (the Cheez-It one we've had for like 6 years unchanged).

It just doesn't add up- if they are shelling out so much, I don't know why. If they're not... then where is the actual money coming from? Is there even any value in advertising or having an expanded playoff?

Yes and no.

Regular sesaon football in both NCAA and NFL is still fun. Part of that comes from gambling and fantasy, but also I am happy watching random Mountain West teams play even if it isn't some high level football.

Post-season football for both sucks.

NCAA is too strung out. I watched a lot because of ND's run, but little chance I watch the semis otherwise.

NFL is burnt out on the Chiefs vs Bills in the AFC. Jayden Daniels makes the NFC slightly interesting nationally. The Eagles are reaching burnt out level as well, and just aren't that interesting.

College football has turned into a complete joke and the NFL is extremely tacky and overexposed at this point.

In regards to watching, it pretty much stopped mattering when the CFP started. Yeah, SEC games are still important to your team, but the BCS made games in weird conferences matter, and not just in a "oh this should be fun" way, it was strategic. Even at 4 teams, it didn't really matter. It was always who was going to win the major conferences and this almost always involved a combination of Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma and/or Ohio State, creating a second problem for the waning national interest.

When Pitt beat West Virginia in 2007, that wasn't just a 'fun upset' to LSU fans, it actually mattered. Same in 2012 when Kansas State and Oregon lost in the same weekend, sending Alabama to #2. That's just not going to happen in a playoff- unless you have that kind of emotional connection to a particular outcome, it's just casual viewership if you have the time.

+ I remember staying up late watching Nevada upsetting Boise St in 2010.

11 minutes of action in a 3 hour and 12 minute broadcast is a complete joke.

At first look it seems ridiculous, but that may be what drives it's success as a televised sport. You can casually watch it and not miss any of the game action. Watch a play, chat with family or friends, watch a slo-mo replay, have a snack or take a drink, watch another play, chat about the play, etc.

It makes for very social viewing. Could they tighten it up, get rid of the fluff, and reduce the time? Absolutely.

They have to get the length of games/commercials under control. In a world where every tv show, movie, and video game is available to you at anytime on any device with little or no commercial interruption, football is going to have to evolve. Both the college game and the NFL have got to trim down the 3.5 hour commercial-fests if they want to capture the attention of younger generations who are growing up with more accessible entertainment options.
For the game between Ohio State and Notre Dame, I have the 4K option on YouTubeTV.

During the 4K broadcast, when there is a break in the action, it was just a wide angle shot of the stadium and the crowd noise. No announcers, no commercials, no recap. It went live when play resumed. My wife was like, "this is boring. Why do they take so long?" and I thought, if you're bored, how about the people at the game waiting and waiting. It's bullshite how they stretch it out like they do.

I only watch a few minutes of my team at the beginning of the game, then I get bored, then I just watch highlights later on after the game is over.

America has tired of paying so much to watch a sport that continues to be diluted. It’s so hard to watch football, or so expensive if you choose to just pay for all of it

I don’t understand this
Say your team isn’t that good this year. But you’re intrigued by some of the young guys that are getting playing time. Its keeping your interest now and giving you an optimistic outlook for next season.

Now half of those players you were excited about are going to hit the transfer portal and be playing somewhere else next year because another school’s boosters or NIL collective threw more money at them.

Kind of takes away the interest in watching a non-playoff contending program taking strides to improve when the entire roster becomes free agents at the end of the regular season.

I’m probably alone here but the quirkiness of college football is what set it apart. The championship selection process was messy but it made the regular season matter more than any other sport.

Its way too much.

The NFL was the greatest league in the world because of the buildup each week. Every week was a story. Every game was a big deal and you waited a week to watch your team.

Now there is a game every night of the week. Nothing special about. Thanksgiving was great because it was the only time we had football on Thursday. This year it was just background filler, its just another game now.

This all started with the Thursday Night games 10 years ago.

That was a terrible decision made on greed.
