re: If you could go back in time and witness one sporting event live, what would it be?

It would have to be some epic moment from the Olympics for me
And back when they mattered...and back when we had a definable enemy and not from within...back when we beat the Russians... Not just those hockey kids, "we beat the Russians."

Going back further in time is mostly just historical curiosity...of which we don't know, if "you had to be there."

In the stands with my Dad for game 4 of the 2004 World Series when the Red Sox finally got the monkey off our back.

Probably watching Buster Douglas take that W from Tyson. I just couldn't imagine being in that crowd.

But this is very unfair to Sham. That horse was elite, he just ran against the GOAT.
Sham's time that day was the second fastest in the history of the Derby.

One of Jackie Robinson's best games in which he also had a lot of hate directed his way.
April 15, 1947, was his first MLB game, but that probably wouldn't be the most interesting one because he didn't have a very good game, and there were probably others where he had to play through more adversity.

USA vs Soviet Union - February 22, 1980.
The 1976 Olympics team had 5 boxers win gold medals. Sugar Ray Leonard made his debut and owned the boxing portion of the games. Included on that team was Leon Spinks and his brother Michael.
As creepy as he is, Bruce Jenner was dominant as a decathlete.
Seeing the first basketball dream team would have been fun. Our college players were playing against eastern block and euro professionals. Our dream team put an end to that nonsense in a hurry.

1990 Knoxville Nationals. I was there and saw it but 3+ decades later it’s still surreal to think that the run that Doug Wolfgang had was possible.
Summerslam 1992 specifically for the Bret Hart vs. Davey Boy Smith match.

1960 World Series Game 7 is another one I would have loved to see in person. Miracle on Ice is still #1, but that's probably the best baseball game of all time. The Yankees set a record for runs scored in a World Series (outscored Pittsburgh 55-27 over the 7 games) and lost.
