re: How do we feel about this? Fan yells something about Marte's mother who passed in 2017.

I would also say that it's really good if you never experience the level of pain that would cause you to pause anything from being so emotional over it, because it's certainly not something I would want anyone to have to go through. It's not a good feeling and it doesn't mean you are looking for attention.

Fan had an in-game prop bet he needed to hit

Sounds like all he said was “I texted your mom last night” and was probably completely unaware his mom passed. Seems overblown.

And that’s coming directly from Marte on what the fan said
quote:
A fan was up on the dugout shouting things about my mother," he said. "He was like, 'Last night I sent a message to your mother.'"

That doesn't really prove anything at all. I can see holding it together the best you can for a bit before losing it later when it comes to being reminded about the loss of someone that was very important to you. I think people who have experienced loss to this level can absolutely understand this.
Not sure why people are so cold or just assume others are just faking.
Exactly. He probably got caught up in the moment thinking about all that his mom had missed in the past 8 years. When his mom passed he was on a rookie contract, now he is on a $116 million contract.

According to the interview Marte directly said the fan only said he was texting his mom, not the rumor that he was “texting her in hell.”
That’s soft as baby shite for Marte to get the fan banned for life for this. He has every right to be emotionally upset but that fan didn’t cross a line because the player he told a stupid your mom joke to had his mom die 8 years ago.

A grown man started crying over that comment? And she didn't just die, but 8 years ago? I mean sorry for his loss but surely this is something a normal adult can just brush off.... right?

If you think this is in the realm of okay you are probably not a good person. Not sure how this is even a question
I couldn’t agree more. That was totally uncalled for.
I fricked his mother (before she died). But I’m not going to brag about it. At least not to her son during a game. He’s doing his job. I would keep it classy and let him know AFTER the game.

Lots of people disappeared from this thread…..
MLB banned a fan for saying “I texted your mom”. Think about that
We also paused a game so someone could break down on the mound over that comment. It’s like a ridiculous soap opera
No baseball right fielder would ever be able to survive a game at LSU if this was “normal” reaction

I agree. Banning the fan is out of line.

Banning this guy from every stadium for life is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. People want this guys life ruined to where he can never get a job again

Baseball is soft as frick. Travel ball mentality.
Every league had sissy kids when we were growing up. There was always one kid who would cry when he struck out. (looking at you Brad S) It was the resposibility of the rest of the team and the whole town to make fun of the little crybabies. And that system worked.
But now we have sissy arse travel ball where every player gets to dance to a walk up song and wear pink batting gloves. Instead of dad drinking beers and tossing your bag in the back of his truck with a pile of old beer cans, now we get screaming single mom on her second bottle of wine trying to berate the umpire because little Braxtyn struck out.
I hate what baseball has become.

Yeah that’s way over the line.
However, I personally wouldn’t cry about it in the middle of a game. Or any time. One has to consider the source.

The guy said Martes mom texted him...it wasnt even obscene
The fan is 22 years old would have been 14 when Marte's mom died. Considering I've never heard of Marte I doubt the white sox fan knew of Marte's mother's death 8 years ago. If the fan in fact did know it was a douche bag move, and should be ejected from the game. Not a life time ban from all MLB parks.
Secondly it was 8 years ago !!!!!
So now we punish people based on feelings so if Marte doesn't cry the fan isn't punished? or if Marte's mom is alive it just ok?
Feelings and an overreaction to them are why this country is in the bind it's in right now. Everyone is so sensitive and ready to be offended it is the pussification of America.

The only thing more sad than the liberals earlier crying over heckling and begging to dox the trashy south sides is a grown man playing a sport crying on the field over words. It’s embarrassing how soft and emasculated the sport has become

This thread took a hell of a turn. I knew this was overblown when I was reading through all the posts from people wetting their panties over it. M.L.B. is soft as baby shite. Let’s not forget this is the league who tried to ban a fan and ruin his life for calling to the Rockies mascot Dinger cause they thought he was dropping N bombs when a black guy was batting.

If someone called my dead mother basically a whore and told me he was texting her in hell, it would probably bring me to tears too only I would be crying while I was up in the stands stomping a mudhole in this guy’s arse and gladly accepting my suspension and any legal or civil consequences.
You understand you just admitted to having absolutely zero control over your emotions, right?
I have a dead parent, just like most adults do at this point. I don't think there's a single thing a stranger could say to me to make me cry nor want to fight them.

Yeah I think most people can sympathize with someone who is struggling with the loss of a loved one but if you break down crying 8 years later over someone yelling something at you even if it is in poor taste you got some deeper issues going on that you need to deal with

gotta have tougher skin, but the fan is a total dickjaw.
sadly, and i have witnessed it at many games, you have horrendous people who follow athletics. There are some, or even a bunch in every fan base.
