Thank you Drew. God Bless you. It’s been a pleasure watching your historic career.

So how do the Saints restructure with out Drew?

Saints have one of the oldest rosters in the NFL, purge all the old guys and start over in the draft. They’re currently $99M over the salary cap, it’s going to be a painful couple of years for Saints fans.

This will not be the strategy

Saints are $100M over the cap and have 21 pending free agents. They won’t say it, but they are going to need a few years to clean the situation and rebuild. There will be a good amount of core players being cut or not resigning because of the cap. The team will look VERY different next season.

They of course will still try to compete for the playoffs and develop younger players but they won’t be really ready for a run for a few years.

Terrible take.

McCoy and Ruiz on rookie deals. Peat just signed an extension. Ram is getting one this year. Armstead has a year left on his deal. So whole line is intact.

AK41, MT13, and Sanders under contract. Smith has one more cheap year. Murray still has 2 more years. Harris, Callaway, and Trautman are all exciting young players on rookie deals. Skill players are in place.

Taysom is relatively cheap for a starting QB, and Winston could still be cheap going forward.

This offense was 7-1 without Brees the last two years. Why would we start trying to blow it up?

So, if you're keeping everyone, how are you getting under the cap?

Saints are 95 million over the cap, Brees retiring only saves them 14m....

They will cut Kwon, Janoris, Jenkins, Easton in order to save another 30-35m

They will restructure and extend Thomas, Kamara, Jordan, Lattimore, and Ram in order to save 20-30m

Then who knows

At some point we are going to have to get much younger. You can have success for a year or two just getting high priced free agents (see TB this year and LAR 2018 season). But the path to success these days is younger players on rookie contracts.

I understand that talent wise, it makes no sense to blow up the roster. The FO may be able to put off the piper a bit longer with some more restructing and player acceptance of that (remember, all teams will have a lower salary cap).

I’m not sure what decent QB would want to play in New Orleans after the treatment Drew Brees has received.

You mean getting paid, getting tons of records, and absolutely adored minus a few try hards on a message board Drew probably has no clue exists? I'm sure there are plenty decent ones who would line up for that (see: Teddy and Jameis).

How the hell does a front office let their team get in this piss poor of salary cap situation??? Why the hell is your back up tight end being paid $16 million?
