How the hell does a front office let their team get in this piss poor of salary cap situation??? Why the hell is your back up tight end being paid $16 million?

They were going all in on today. Not worried about tomorrow.

I think so. I tend to think Payton has bought himself enough goodwill that unless we’re stinking it up (<6 wins) for multiple seasons in a row, ownership would let him stay as long as he wants.

I’m biased but I tend to think he’ll stay with the Saints until he retires. He just fits with the organization and the fans like him a lot.

remember, the owner is Mrs. B and not Mr. B

We’re probably gonna have to have those stinker seasons to rebuild

I’m not sure what decent QB would want to play in New Orleans after the treatment Drew Brees has received.

I have an aunt that’s in the real estate business and I heard that D Watson’s wife has been looking at homes on the lakefront

the Saints FO always has this philosophy. it's why they're so aggressive trading draft picks in future years to move up in the draft

they'll be able to restructure a ton of deals and push the can further down the road like always

now there are some moves that make no sense, like taysom hill's idiotic contract, but no FO is perfect

i don't see why the Saints need to rebuild

look how good we've been the past 3 years with a mediocre-bad QB. we have drafted insanely well and are entering into the prime zone for one of the GOAT draft classes in NFL history

Because you’re $99 million over the cap and don’t even have a reliable QB signed. Brees is gone, Winston isn’t under contract and Taysom is right handed Tebow.

won't help as much this year, from all reports the most they can free up is 40-45m from the different subscription articles

if we have to roll with Taysom's shitty arse for a year so be it. still no reason to rebuild

we're going to restructure a lot of deals like we also do

we may have to make some business decisions with good players (like Armstead, Jordan) but we don't need to "rebuild"

per OTC, we have 9 guys (including Brees) with a base salary $10M or more. that's a ton of room to work with

cutting Kwon alone saves $13M. we can easily restructure that entire deal to keep him and save almost all of that hit

We have some tough calls but there’s a few cuts and restructures that can cut that number in half right away. The offense is good to go with a remotely competent QB. They’ll have to do some drafting on the defensive side but they have a good base there.

there is no way

Kwan and Ram alone are almost $24M that projection and can almost entirely be deferred with new deals

He will probably be like Andy Reid. And just as fat. Looks like he doesn’t miss any meals.

If you were $25 million over the cap, I’d say this is possible. Not $100 million though. You’re going to lose significant players.

Injury prone guy coming off an achilles injury. Hopefully we get him for pennies on a backloaded deal. He is far and away better than Anzalone.

The best player they may lose this offseason is Hendrickson unless there's a surprise cut I'm missing. They're old as a whole, but much of their star power is young and under contract. As long as they're willing to roll with Taysom or a cheap alternative they don't need to blow anything up or rebuild as so many are suggesting.

If they get adequate QB play there's no reason they're not a 9-7 team in the hunt for a playoff spot. Kamara, Thomas, Ram, McCoy, Jordan, Davis, Lattimore aren't going anywhere.

They also still have their 1st, 2nd, and two 3rd round comp picks.

The sky isn't falling.

we've been projected well over $25M going into offseasons where we ended up signing free agents

designating Brees a post June 1 cut saves $25M alone

if we did the same for Armstead that's another $11.75M

restructure Kwon to get his $13M hit to $1M (or we can cut him) and re-sign Ram to get his $11M his to $1

those 4 moves save about $60M

Latt is like Ram and over $10M that can be restructured lower with a new deal.

cutting Eason post June 1 saves $6.5M

cutting Malcom Brown post June 1 saves $5M

etc

If Drew Brees retires as expected, the Saints would free up $13.5 million
quote:

Cutting linebacker Kwon Alexander should create $13.4 million in space
quote:

Interior offensive lineman Nick Easton is valuable depth, but we need the $6 million in cap savings for a guy who isn't projected to start
quote:

Moving on from veteran wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders frees up an additional $6.5 million, and releasing defensive tackle Malcom Brown creates $5 million more in savings. Janoris Jenkins, with a $14.2 million cap hold, can net us $10 million more as a post-June 1 release, and fellow corner Patrick Robinson gets us $2.6 million more.
quote:

The Saints have a pair of young superstars due new deals, and both tackle Ryan Ramczyk and cornerback Marshon Lattimore are expecting to become one of the highest-paid players at their respective positions in the game. Both Lattimore ($10.2 million) and Ramczyk ($11.1 million) already have significant cap figures, so the team could reduce both those figures with extensions. Again, with a two-tier bonus structure, let's say the Saints reduce each of their 2021 cap holds to $5 million. While they have spent hundreds of millions of dollars, they've now freed up $11.3
quote:

While he might have been the subject of trade rumors, we need to use the four years remaining on Michael Thomas' extension as runway. Converting $11.6 million of his $12.6 million base salary into an option bonus and adding a voidable year frees up $9.3 million. We can make a similar move with defensive end Cam Jordan's contract and create $8.7 million more in space.
