They spend a good bit of time talking about Josh Booty’s two boys(QB and WR) that play there and how he wasn’t really in their life and is now trying to make up for it.

So, no, Evangel and Curtis are not the same. Curtis may be an embarrassment to high school education, but they are a damn Ivy League school compared to Evangel.

Perhaps. But at least Evangel had the balls to always play up in the highest level they were allowed. Curtis were always just c unts that hid in 4A and won a bunch of hollow championships beating up on vastly inferior players/teams like a bunch of scared little bitches.

Watched them in a playoff game against Ryan Perrilloux and ESJ. Lots of speed on that field that night. Game was a track meet.

There was some bad blood in that relationship. I’ve heard two completely different stories.

1) Josh didn’t know about them for years.
2) He refused to acknowledge he was the father for years, and was finally dragged into court and DNA testing.

I remember amite went up there when amite was loaded with so many athletes around 2000. Evangel let the sprinklers on all day. Field was soaked.

A lot of the Evangel players from the late 90’s early 2000’s have kids playing at Calvary Baptist in Shreveport. Brock Berlin is a Drug Rep I believe but still lives in Shreveport. Calvary has a lot of Evangel tendencies today. Dennis Dunn was the one who was accused of some activity with a young girl. He is now the head coach at North Desoto.

It was a long time ago, and I was young, but I remember Evangel choosing 3A specifically to avoid Haynesville in 2A and Curtis is 4A.

To their credit, Evangel did eventually make the jump to 5A, while John Curtis remained in 4A.

I coached against those teams in the playoffs…late 90’s. There was some studs on those teams, but the rules were let’s say “bent” quite a bit.
Brock Berlin miraculously popped up out of Oklahoma.

pretty sure you are thinking of Brent Rawls not Brock Berlin

It's especially egregious when you constantly throw religion around like that, while simultaneously ignoring and breaking all the rules regarding recruiting, and running a fraud of a school, and oh when someone calls you out on it... claiming religious persecution

I know you know the Good Word doesn’t spread when you’re 5-5 losing in round 1

There’s teams that want to be good, and then there’s teams that have being good as the school’s business model.

Now what I’m wondering is if Evangel planned to have a terrible season to have a redemption arc for their documentary

I remember Jimmy Ott always loved Josh Booty and swore he was a lot better quarterback than Peyton Manning-on the air-daily.

I watch every documentary like this that i can find.

I tried, Lord knows I tried.

I made it through the second of six episodes and said “no more.” After a few days i gave episode three a try. That’s it for me.

This production seems too staged. I’ve seen plenty of documentaries where it seemed like those being filmed forgot the camera was there. The conversations seemed too contrived.

Of course when somebody was being interviewed I expected that person to know they were being filmed. I never got the sense that i was eavesdropping like i do in other documentaries so this didn’t come across as a behind the scenes documentary. If anything it could serve as a promotional piece for the school.

Every now and then a voice will come on saying he is part of the Evangel sports network. I’ve seen other documentaries where they used real clips from a radio broadcast. This voice is clearly not from a live broadcast. The person is reading from a script. Narration is just fine but don’t act like this is a clip from a sports network broadcast.

So, it’s the production that turned me off.
