I got fond memories of that prime Evangel trip to Bobby Nuss Stadium… especially fond to know that we weren’t on the wrong end of it

Well both of my kids graduated there and graduated from 2 different colleges in exactly 4 years. They have great jobs and never missed anything by having a Calvary education.

JT Curtis talked at length about why they only played up to 4A in the 90s and early 2000s, had nothing to do with FB. They felt 4A was the ceiling for their girls sports to play up and still be competitive.

Complete horseshite. Just a weak excuse to beat up on inferior teams who had zero chance and keep collecting those hollow, meaningless trophies. I’d respect them
more if they would just admit they were too chicken shite to compete in football at the highest level. It’s still chicken shite, but not as chicken shite as blaming it on girls’ softball.

that's great but it doesn't mean that the education isn't lacking severely. Its the truth. Kids failing other schools go to Calvary and make all As. Math is behind two grade levels compared to other schools

A friend of mine moved to Shreveport and enrolled his daughter in Calvary a couple of years ago. He pulled her out after 3-4 weeks because it was obvious the academics were not close to what they were used too.

absolute bottom of the barrel. However. they are unreal in all aspects of sports. Every program is championship level. Girls softball is the most dominant program there

Sounds like you’re just anti Calvary. You really think a kid failing in public school and making all A’s at Calvary is common? That’s an exaggeration for sure. Maybe the teachers and environment are better at Calvary. All public school people like to rag on the education at privates. I can name plenty of my kids friends that came from schools like Byrd etc that couldn’t hack it in college. Yet the enrollment at Calvary continues to climb. Waiting lists in many grades. Is Calvary an academic juggernaut? No, but it’s not much different than the publics for sure.

all this school comparing... but..... a real true measure is how many they send to the "academies"... forget athletics but when you teach the real right stuff - you have kids end up there. just sayin'....

Back in the day, Evangel, Curtis, West Monroe, Parkview Baptist, and all of the other big boys should have all been in the same classification for football

This sent me down an Evangel rabbit hole. The whole culture behind this program is so weird to me. A “where are they now” of former evangel stars would be interesting. I’m guessing a lot of car dealerships.

Berlin went to Miami

He originally went to Florida and everyone thought he was going to absolutely light it up in Spurrier’s offense. However he couldn’t beat out Rex Grossman and transferred to Miami.

Berlin struggled playing under center. At Evangel he just sat back in the deep shotgun. He could sure as hell spin it though. Still the most impressive high school QB I’ve ever seen. What a cannon.

Enrollment climbs because of sports and people are tired of the BS at public schools. I love Calvary but it’s well well below average academically. That’s a fact. Their math in 7th grade is what other kids do in 5th. How do I know? We went there.

I think he is thinking of brent rawls who transferred in to Evangel from OK played WR as a Junior and he played QB as a senior IIRC

Wrong. You have it backwards. Brent was born and raised in Shreveport. Parents both from Shreveport. He went to Oklahoma for college but didn’t last very long there.
