Evangel has a documentary series called god family football. It on freevee which you can watch through Amazon or the freevee app. It covers last year’s season.

I’m not sure if it has been mentioned before

I don't think they were particularly good last year and they were close to folding a few years ago. But I would watch a doc on 90s/early 2000s North Louisiana high school football.

I am a bit surprised that in this YouTube era, we don't have more documentaries like this. However, I would imagine game film/video could be difficult to find.

Ha. What's the statute of limitations on recruiting violations?! A doc like that could lead to some State and National championship banners to come down at one of the key players in that area (if not all of them).

And Chase Pittman too. They've sent a few good ones to LSU over the years.

I heard Hester say on the radio the other day that at the 2002 state title game in the Superdome, Don Shows went up to him before the game and point blank told him that he would get his mom a job in West Monroe and showcase Hester in the offense next year.

I remember going there for a playoff game in 02’ when Rummel played them.

I’m convinced they had several 20+ year old dudes on that team.

Very creepy how that school was ran back in the day. Almost like a football cult.

Dudes are probably hoarding their old game film and keeping VCRs just for that purpose if the highlight of their life was winning a state title 30 years ago

To be fair I’d do the same thing but we lost a lot of film in Katrina. North LA didn’t have such a disaster

Never forget when my youth football coach got into a field brawl in the Evangel vs Byrd game back in the late 90s/early 00s.

It was all over the local news.

Was so proud. It was very Christian of everyone involved...

Was it the Founder or Head Coach that ministered to that young girl across state lines?

Crazy that the fanbase defended such action.

I knew several guys on those teams that I played ball with that lived around where I was from 5-13 yrs old before we moved. They were very productive for those teams. I did not grow up in WM or even Ouachita Parish.

Curtis is a football factory that provides a sub-par education and probably cuts corners.

But the religion push at Curtis is very low.

Whereas, every interview with an Evangel player or coach in the late 90s / early 2000s started with a 5 min Gospel session.

They truly, completely, believed that the only reason they were good football players / coaches was because God wanted them to be in order to spread God's word around.

I mean, it's in the name... Evangel is a product of the term Evangelical.

It's especially egregious when you constantly throw religion around like that, while simultaneously ignoring and breaking all the rules regarding recruiting, and running a fraud of a school, and oh when someone calls you out on it... claiming religious persecution.

So, no, Evangel and Curtis are not the same. Curtis may be an embarrassment to high school education, but they are a damn Ivy League school compared to Evangel.

Don Shows was still doing that shite up until he retired he got Cam Robinson's mom a good job and an apartment so he could switch his address from Monroe to West Monroe to play.

I coached against those teams in the playoffs…late 90’s. There was some studs on those teams, but the rules were let’s say “bent” quite a bit.
Brock Berlin miraculously popped up out of Oklahoma.
