Warning, long post: As the title says, I’m looking for some helpful advice(and expecting typical OT advice along the way lol).

I moved my mom into my house 7 years ago to care for her. I even built her a handicap accessible apartment in my old shop.

She is now where she needs 24/7 care and as a single father of 3, I can’t provide that and keep my job in order to care for my kids.

We looked into a nursing home which is roughly $8000 a month. She’s 71 and her total retirement income is around $3000 monthly. I applied for Medicaid and even though she can’t even cover half a months stay at the nursing home, they said she makes too much to qualify.

I am now in the process of putting my house on the market that’s been in my family for almost 40 years in order to try and cover her stay until/unless I can find a nurse or sitter to be here while I’m at work. Of course I’d still have to be able to pay for that and my normal bills until the house sales.

The last thing I want to do is sale the house bc I’m still going to have to pay for a new smaller place to go along with the nursing home. I tried a go fund me and didn’t raise a single dollar even though I see people on the news raising hundreds of thousands for unbelievable crimes.

It might just be my bad luck bc I’m the same person that had 3 mini strokes like 8 years ago and the Dr wouldn’t let me work for a year and the gov told me I didn’t qualify for temporary disability or unemployment.

Anyway, sorry for the long post, but as a single father of 3, my income can only stretch so far, so any suggestions are welcomed even if that suggestion just gets me another month or two of time to think and research. Thanks in advance.

My point is US summer well exceeds the summer temps overall when it comes to heat and humidity and we regularly see temps well above our averages. Do we get to blame EU for all of those temp jumps/above average summers if they’re going to blame us for something that very seldom happens there?

If it’s too bad start putting in AC units instead of having the culture of passive cooling and then crying when you see a heat spike.

Has nothing over the last couple of years showed you that LSU can hang with anyone when it comes to funding recruiting/coaching? Are we still rolling with the narrative that LSU is the only big time school with no money?

Are all of these top players and coming to BR for free? For fricks sake they have multiple coaches getting buyouts, signed the top coach out there by taking him from his team while in the playoffs and then had the top transfer portal team for like $40 million and a top 10-15 recruiting class. This doesn’t happen with only middle to high income fans donating a thousand dollars here and there. This happens with wealthy donors and LSU has them.

I couldn’t tell you the last time I bought a new car. They aren’t getting me again. I’ll buy used cars from here on out.

I bought my son a 2016 6 years ago that’s still rolling strong and I’m currently driving a 2012 Cadillac SRX that I bought in 2023. It was driven by some old lady. Both are paid for so I’m not tied to anything and they’re in great shape for being as old as they are.

100%. There was a guy in front of me at Dollar General last week and I overheard the cashier ask him about his shoes(the back was flopping around and about to fall off). He said he wore size X and that the shoes he had to wear were old and way too big.

I got to the register and asked if he came into the store a good bit and she said he did. My son and I ran to the store and bought a pair of shoes(nothing crazy) and brought them back for her to give to him the next time he came in.

People like to help for the most part even when they might be struggling a little themselves. You see little things like his shoes and realize your problems could be so much worse.
