Complete horseshite. Just a weak excuse to beat up on inferior teams who had zero chance and keep collecting those hollow, meaningless trophies. I’d respect them
more if they would just admit they were too chicken shite to compete in football at the highest level. It’s still chicken shite, but not as chicken shite as blaming it on girls’ softball.

i am not defending Curtis in any way but like it or not, that was JT’s justification. In JT’s role as head of the school I get it.

That being said, Curtis played the 5A schools that would play them.

record vs Catholic league and top publics was pretty stout 1985 through 2013 - Beat eventual state champ ehret in 85 and only 1 loss to a catholic league team shaw 97 until 2013. and yes many 5a schools avoided them like the plague.

Geoff Nixon blatantly relocated from Dallas (after already transferring schools 3 times) to play at Evangel. The LSHAA told evangel to get fricked and denied him eligibility. I don’t think he ever ended up playing anywhere.

I didn’t mean to imply you were.

I know it was. And 1) we all know it’s bullshite, but 2) it’s even bigger bullshite to blame it on the girls’ softball team. It’s insulting to the literal girls’ softball players/teams, but more insulting that he thought anybody was stupid enough to buy it.

I don’t doubt that. I watched West Monroe handle them in a “classic” game (J. Haudi or something?) in the Dome one year, but it was a regular season game and didn’t prevent Curtis from winning the 4A Championship. Just playing that game probably helped them
secure the #1 seed in 4A.

I don’t know how power rankings work—I know it’s changed a bunch—but would it behoove a 5A team to play a 4A Curtis? I don’t really follow high school football these days, but when I was in the 90s-early aughts, there were maybe 4-5 5A teams (?) in a given year that would/could beat Curtis. Even if they beat Curtis in a regular season game and that wound up being the only regular season game Curtis lost, would that help/hurt their power ranking?

So yeah, I’m sure a lot of 5A teams did dodge Curtis. 1, most would lose. 2, the ones that could actually compete could potentially be hurt with a win, and would almost certainly lose twice in a loss (loss on the field and power points by losing to a team in a lower class). So, I’m sure there were some teams that dodged them because they were scared of getting embarrassed. And others who avoided them because there was nothing in it for them.

I dont think it was JCCHS Softball he was protecting, I think it was GBB IIRC

but mostly I am sure JT didnt want to lose female enrollment in general

i think you went to the Hap Glaudi Glassic

Hap Gaudi Classic 1999 - Curtis vs Evangel

JCCHS vs West Monroe - 2000 Hap Glaudi CLassic
