dude sounds like a scumbag

quote:

That expert said the couple had paid $9 million more than the diamonds were actually worth, according to the lawsuit. The expert said the $8.2 million ring was worth about $3.6 million.

The lawsuit claims the 11-time Pro Bowler confronted Moradi about the discrepancy, and the jeweler admitted to charging "a substantial markup" but also argued that the market at the moment was as "weak as it has ever been."

"Moradi insisted unabashedly that he had done nothing wrong because he charged plaintiffs the price at which Moradi expected the jewelry could be resold in 10 to 15 years because Moradi knew (the Breeses) wanted a 'long-term investment,' " the lawsuit asserts.

The lawsuit accuses Moradi of lying about how much the so-called investment diamonds were worth. It also alleges he used reflective and painted settings "to manipulate the appearance of diamonds" he recommended that the Breeses buy "to conceal ... the quality of the stones."

The couple ultimately decided to cut ties with Moradi, whom they also accuse of refusing to return to them $244,000 they had wired to him for a watch they ultimately decided to not buy. Moradi allegedly said he would convert that money into store credit.

Can you imagine the ribbing Brees will take in the locker room this year?

I have never bought jewelry from a reputable dealer that did not provide an appraisal at the time of purchase, otherwise, there is no way to get jewelry insured.

Those appraisals are ALWAYS high. Always. They do them high so you aren't under-insured (and to make idiots think they got some sort of good deal).

Well in this instance, its the opposing lawyer claiming Drew was having issues. Who knows if that was true or not.

Drew Brees: Scammed or an idiot?

Both, but more idiot than scammed by a margin of about 4 to 1.

15 mil on jewelry out of 100 mil is a pretty big chunk.

Couple of underperforming investments and you run into problems quick dropping that kind of cash.

Brees is an idiot.

There's no positive way to spin this.

All the additional money Brees makes with his endorsements and all those restaurants he owns next to his contract, dude can afford to be an idiot there, it is what it is

Seems crazy to me to spend that much on jewelry, but when you make as much as he does I guess he got bored to buying other stuff.

I’m not a lawyer nor have I bought million dollar jewelry. I’m not quite understanding what type of legal ground Brees has to stand on just because he overpaid for some items at retail. Sounds like Brees fricked up by not getting such expensive items independently appraised before buying

If you would replace Brees name with Kanye West or Rick Ross these comments would be totally different

I like Brees, but his image has been WAY too clean IMO.

People look at him Almost like Tiger Woods, before we knew who Tiger woods really was.

I have always wondered what Brees has hidden, because there has to be something with the choir boy appearance he seems to put on daily.

I guess we will see. Hope this is all he’s got and nothing else comes out, but I have a feeling for some reason this is the beginning.

all those restaurants

Celebrities lose millions on business ventures like restaurants all the time. Just because he is expanding, doesn't mean he is making bank on them. They are talked into poor business deals all the time.

I'm guessing Brees is just going to be a seen as a shite investor and over trusting. Absolutely no way you shouldn't get an independent appraisal done when buying that much jewelry.

I bought my wife's wedding ring and diamond from 2 separate people, then had it appraised together and it was like 20% over what I paid. I'm still guessing if I sold it it would be worth something like 50% of what I paid.

I'm fairly convinced jewelry appraisals are more about replacement value than what they are actually worth. One is how much it would cost you to buy a new one, the latter is how much you can sell it for. 2 completely different numbers.

Eta: jewelry is like a used car with appraisal. One price is what the dealer will pay you for it, the other is what they will sell you the same car for.

Well that's a pretty damn cynical take with just about no basis. Maybe the dude got railroaded on some jewelry, that doesn't make him a bad guy or mean he's got a closet full of skeletons. Some of you are ridiculous.

Well, in Drew's defense, (not easy thing to do) he was probably buying that stuff for an investment and not for "bling".

Now I don't know if it sounds any better that he was buying the most marked up things in existence.

Fyi, there was a pic of him doing cocaine after the SP win. I can't find the pic now but it appeared on this site.
