Unless there is more to this story, he is a complete idiot here

He's still an idiot for making purchases like that regardless if there's more to the story, which there probably is. If I had to guess, his claim is the jeweler made false representations as to the appraisals of the jewelry at the time of purchase, which should be easy to prove. I have never bought jewelry from a reputable dealer that did not provide an appraisal at the time of purchase, otherwise, there is no way to get jewelry insured.

If that is what this is he is a full on idiot no matter what.

I am wondering if there was potentially some contract about buy backs and shite since Brees was a celebrity repping his product and now the jewler is backing out on that

Paying that much for jewelry is idiotic regardless of what happened. Relying on a jeweler's appraisal at the time of purchase isn't idiotic on Brees' part, especially one dealing in jewels with that type of value as I doubt many jewelers carry multi-million dollar diamonds to sell. One would have to thin this is a pretty reputable dealer with that type of inventory.

He wanted a necklace with 28 three karat diamonds instead, but he ended up losing out on it at the last second.

So this is the thread where people with a fundamental misunderstanding of how attorneys work and speak give us their opinions huh?

This is true. My buddy just got divorced and his wife agreed to give him the ring back because she cheated and they'd only been married a year. I wanna say he got just a hair over 50% of what he paid. However, insurance companies, at least mine (USAA), will give you full market value. My wife's rings are fully insured for what I paid for them. But yeah, it's simple economics. A jeweler is in the business of making money. They're not going to give you full price for your diamond when they're trying to make a profit when they sell it to someone else.

To be fair, jewelry at that price range is not the same as "regular" jewelry. It's more like fine art. A lot of it is expected to appreciate, though it's certainly not a given. You don't expect the art you buy from a local artist to appreciate, but you do expect a Van Gogh to.

Either way, I think Brees doesn't look good here but let's be fair with the facts.

No need to get offended. We aren't saying Brees is a bad qb, just trashy. Too much time in South LA, that baw probably bought pure gold truck nuts as well.

The more valuable a piece of jewelry is, the harder is it to sell. It's not exactly easy to find a buyer for an 8 million dollar diamond. Celebs do this with houses as well. They buy these 20+ million mansions and then are shocked when they sit on the market for years.

People are running with statements of lawyers as if they have any basis in reality.

They are paid to defend their clients and this part of the case is 100% posturing bullshite.

The reality always lies somewhere in the middle.

More than likely, Brees bought a bunch of shite from this guy and does not think they were appraised fairly. The jeweler thinks they were. The end.

It is highly unlikely that Brees has any kind of "cashflow problems" or any such stupidity.

Also, newsflash: insanely rich people buy really expensive stuff, like jewelry. I know people that aren't even close to as rich as Brees (but still fairly wealthy) with rings and such worth several million.

None of this is unusual or a big deal.
