Why not just move them to a more deserving MLB market like New Orleans?
You're one of the better posters at effectively trolling on this site but this wasn't one of you finer attempts.

Because a baseball team in New Orleans would rival Miami for attendance.

What's wrong with DeKalb County?

Yeah me too, but it's different when you're trying to walk your wife and daughter in the stadium and some bum is begging for change before you even step out of the car.
same thing at the underground area stop for marta. I had the same problems at the aquarium. it is all over in downtown atlanta.

Accessing Turner field is a challenge as is the neighborhood itself. If not for a Braves game there is no reason to go that area of town. Despite the traffic challenges of the new location, the Braves are simply trying to get closer to the demographic of their average fan with the hope that they can develop a fan experience around the park.
Collateral site development always seems to be a promise and challenge with these stadiums, but after nearly 20 years with nothing around Turner field, why not pack it in and give it a try elsewhere. I am not a Cobb resident, but the number of $450M is being thrown around as their share of the new stadium costs.

I personally love the move. I grew up in Atlanta and as much as I like the Ted, there is nothing there that I will miss. There's no iconic Otis Nixon catch or the "when Sid slid". Instead you have randy Johnson perfect game and a blown call when we all threw garbage.
As far as the new stadium goes, I think it's a way for the team to generate more money to help offset the crappy tv deal. They'll sell the naming rights and have sponsors everywhere for everything and at higher rates than existing contracts as. I think that's why payroll went up to 100MM

baseball fans by and large don't live in the cities anymore... if we built a stadium i'd want it in metairie near the causeway bridge, so i understand what ATL is going through

I would say the problem with AS was the execution. When it started, it was the hottest thing going. Condos for 600k-1m. Couldn't get in there it was so jammed.
But, what Atlanta doesn't do well is realize that you can't have upscale and accessible, in this town at least. If you go that route, you can't complain about who patronizes the place. Streets of Buckhead had the right idea by going ultra high end, unfortunately the bottom fell out with the recession.
You can't expect your 800k condo sitting above an Old Navy to maintain that value, at least not in Atlanta.
As a general Atlanta rule, if you want your condo/bar/restaurant/etc to stay nice, you either make it ultra high end and price people out, or you make it subdued such that the fake-rapper crowd isn't interested.

Horrible governance, bad crime. Brookhaven and most of Decatur are exceptions, of course.

The recession also damaged AS real estate values for a while. I go there at least once a week and it's gotten much better.

It is definitely a more reasonable place to live/go, but it couldn't return to the upscale standard it once appealed to.
Malls do that a lot too, you can't expect it to be upscale with decidedly middle of the road anchor stores.

Ya, Dunwoody, Oak Grove, Tucker, Fernbank and Smokerise are really rough places.
There is nothing wrong with Dekalb county. The transplants that are afraid to venture out of their northern matching subdivisions would like to think otherwise.
The governance statement is absolutely correct though.

AS and most of Dekalb is fine. AS having more middle class people does not equal crime and riff raff. Not everybody is looking for Phipps.
There's a middle ground between $1M condos and crime infested.
Back to the original argument of a Braves stadium in Midtown. The city folk weren't supporting the team. Why pay the premium for the land, if the support isn't there.
edit: After re-reading your post, it's coming from the perspective that it was designed for up-scale. Yeah, they failed if that was the intent.

No kidding, what a joke. Atlanta is a sprawling city, you cannot deny that. No matter where they place the stadium someone is going to be upset. The fact of the matter is that attendance sucks at Turner Field and their are barriers that keep the Braves from maximizing their revenue. People need to quit bitching. OMG people in decatur can no longer go to games!!!!! cry me a river. If you are a true braves fan, you will find a way to go to the games. If moving to Cobb keeps you from doing that, cheer for the phillies.

I'm good with either Midtown or the choice that was made.Either is a much better choice than the current location.
If it was built where the current AS is located you would have much better access to Marta and people coming down 400 and 85 and also all the midtown corp offices and financial district to
draw from.
Currently, the only offices near Turner Field are all Federal and State govt offices and pretty much nothing south of there.
