I drove by the site this morning as my office is near there. It's going to be a charlie foxtrot unless some serious work is done to alleviate traffic.
As Weintraub pointed out in this and his other stadium article, these projects are not for the fans; they exist to make money for owners. There will still be barriers to attendance, but the owners won't care because they will still have an increase in revenue.

The white flight is such BS as well. The only color the Braves are worried about is green - money. And who can blame them?
You can disagree with the move but that guy was totally biased and even admitted to so.

Does everyone truly believe there will be nothing done to deal with traffic or public transport? They don't make this decision on a whim and without talking with Cobb County.

You guys are still missing the point.
This won't be great for the fans, so why are so-called fans cheering it?

If it was built where the current AS is located you would have much better access to Marta and people coming down 400 and 85 and also all the midtown corp offices and financial district to
AS is an ideal choice for those that want the city to improve as it really caters to those ITP and you could create a cool surrounding environment pretty easily with the already existing shops around AS and West Midtown. I'm just not sure where they would find the parking that caters to the majority of the fanbase and I have the same traffic worries about AS that I do at the cobb location. AS would be great if you have a city with great public transit infrastructure but we don't. The people from the burbs (majority of fanbase) don't use public transit.

Agree 100%
And since when has metro Atlanta really done anything about traffic.
They are moving from an area penned in by 2 major interstates to another penned in the same way.

What's weird to me is all the gnashing of teeth by ITP people saying the team is leaving downtown Atlanta, like the stadium is currently in Virginia Highlands and an intricate part of the community. You drive through "downtown" Atlanta to get to the shite hole where it sits now.
Oh no, you won't get to ride a public transit bus to the stadium 30 minutes before the game, and then ride the same bus back as soon as the game is over. Heaven forbid you actually get in a car, drive 8 miles, and be able to hang out all day around the ballpark with multiple bars and restaurants to choose from. Meanwhile, the majority of the OTP crowd will still be driving a further distance than the ITPers even with the move.

Of course I believe that.
I've been here for 30+ years and nothing has been done.
People talk about Cobb County like it is some sort of paradise. They only care about green just like everyone else.

How not? They are significantly improving the fan experience.

Shouldn't the true Braves fans be finding a way to go now?
We aren't discussing Turner Field. The thought process is moving the stadium closer to the fanbase will cater to those who care about the braves.

We can debate all day and long whether or not Cobb makes the most sense but I find it hard to argue with the fact that the Turner Field location is anything but a sinking ship. If you can't get on board with the Braves needing to move then we have fundamental differences we will never be able to agree upon.

So you are really talking about a very few people.
It will be a one hour drive from Alpharetta/Roswell etc.

True. Which is why this does not make the best sense.
But as long as the Braves and Cobb County are paying, go for it!
They can have their team while the education budget is in the red.

Attendance was 13th out of 30 teams. Not exactly sinking.
I don't think it is a great place by any means, but I don't think it is a stadium issue. Fulton County Stadium was a crap hole for baseball. And the attendance was terrible when the team was terrible. It was rocking when the team was great.

Cobb is a big place. It is the location in Cobb that I have the most difficulty with.

so where's the $450 million coming from if it's not hotel tax or sales tax?
This type of sh*t scares me about Nashville in a few years when it's time to replace LP Field... I know this board is mostly made up of 20-something single males who don't really care all that much about tax burden and/or family finances... but I think it's total bullsh*t for a bunch of millionaires/billionaires to put a ton of the cost on a community's residents.

My game day experience will improve ten fold. Attractions, bars, restaurants, and a new state of the art stadium.
I'm out of town and will be coming down 75 from Chattanooga. I'm absolutely fine with it. Cuts a good chunk outta my drive.
And when I stay with friends in ATL we will actually have a reason to get to the stadium early and enjoy the game day atmosphere. Game days at Turner are miserable.
And all about the money, no shite. That can only help the team. Which I'm fine with.

It will likely be a SPLOST project. Meaning Cobb voters will have to ok it.
It's all sexy and glamorous to have a pro team in your area, but it is an economic loser for all but a very few.
