Not necessarily a waste, but a waste for LSU was Akiem Hicks. He was absolutely unblockable according to T-Bob.

Some people are confusing not caring with just being an idiot.

When I think "not care" I think about people like Jamarcus Russell or Eddie Lacy that were just lazy and didn't work hard when they turned pro, or someone like Odell Beckham that fell out of love with the game and in love with the fame. Dude was on pace to be an all-timer

People like Blackmon, Gordon, Ruggs, Leaf, Williams, Foster were just idiots and/or substance abusers

Michael Vick.

As a Saints fan, I can say that Vick is one of the most talented NFL players I have ever seen in my life. He had a cannon for an arm and we know about his running ability. He didn’t put in the work to get better and just got by on talent. That’s how much talent he had. He even admitted later in his career (I think when he was with the Eagles) that he didn’t prepare, practice and work on his craft like he should when he was younger.

I’m glad he didn’t.

Stanley Roberts. All the talent to be an all time big man but just didn't care enough to put in the work. If I remember correctly, Dale Brown said he used to go wake him up every morning and walk him to class to make sure he went.

I think Cutty likes to play up that persona. You aren't an 11 year starting QB in the NFL without caring a whole, whole lot about what you do.

I agree he kind of leans into the "don't care" schtick. By all accounts, he was well-liked in the Bears locker room, and even the Dolphins locker room his final year.

Olin Kreutz is a confrontational hothead, and I have only ever heard him stick up for Jay; he would have gotten in Cutler's face at some point if he thought he half-assed it.

If Cutler was guilty of not caring about something, it was probably the opinions of the fans and media. I think he enjoyed playing the game, but mostly shunned the spotlight, and that rubbed some people the wrong way.

Randy Moss.

If he had Jerry Rice's work ethic he would have been the goat of all GOATs.

Todd Marinovich

Father made him hate it. This article is an interesting look into Marinovich's life up to his Senior year of high school. Marinovich was a couple years older than me, and remember reading this article as a Sophomore in high school about to go through Spring Training as the starting QB. in our library in February of 1988. I remember thinking even as I read the article at 15 that he'd have problems with his old man and football one day. I always pulled for him after reading that article.

This is an obscure one, but tough to beat.

Ronnie Murphy got drafted in 1987 by the Portland Trailblazers in the 1st round out of Jacksonville University. Got suspended his rookie year for failing to maintain his weight within limits set in his contract. Got suspended again for being a fat body before his second season and was released by the Blazers. Never played in the Association again. Went from 1st rounder to released within a year and a half.
