.28 is a good size lot?

What is that, 80 x 150? That was typical of the 70s and 80s family neighborhoods in BR. Now it's more like 40x110

$395,000
Est.

5 bed
3 bath
3,813 sqft
3.7 acre lot

That’s crazy for that much money. I’m glad I’m out of the house buying market. I don’t miss the subdivision life one bit.

You can get a high quality 3/2 around 2000 square feet in my market for 300. 400 would get a bigger 4/3 but probably not a new construction home

If that's what you got out of that statement then you need to be more worried about yourself then what I can afford.

I own a home outright sport. No Mortgage. Only an idiot wants everything to crash just so they can buy a home or 'invest'. You aren't thinking this through very well. The idea that everyone else will be impacted but you won't is just not reality.

I do pretty good and have what I think is a super nice 20 year old house that has been updated and it's still not a $400k house, probably not a $350k house.

Same here. We built ours in 2013 for just over $300k. I couldn’t afford to do it now based on materials and interest rates. We owned the land outright prior to the house.

A shorty DR Horton home stacked so close to others on a single dead end street. Section 8 in 5-10 years

$400k gets you upper middle in the nicer areas here. These houses were 270-300 when we bought 5 years ago now going $400-450. Pretty much the nicest current development in the area but I am seeing some that could top it in the works as more people move here. If you just want land 100 acres or so can be had in that range

ETA: I just looked - median sale in 2022 for my zip code was $850K.

I just checked our town. Median listing price is $1.9M

We got some OT level homes out here.

You must live in a very exclusive town. Sounds similar to Highland Park, TX.

Am I the only person hoping for an 08 or worse?
No. Tons of people on these boards pull for bad things to happen.

We need something to scare away institutional investors. Entire new construction neighborhoods for rent isn't good for anyone but the fund holding the properties.

Problem is that if it crashed, wouldn’t the government just do dumb stuff in response instead of letting the market sort itself out?

$400k would be a 2500-3000 sq ft upper middle class house in Mobile area.

Upper middle class.

300-350 is what I’d call middle class in the Tuscaloosa area.

I’ve got 5 currently under contract :)

Good chance I will actually, as will the wife. It will reset the market and be a lifetime opportunity for investments, so yes 35 yr old me is hoping for an 08.

The problem that got us here was the returns leading to them being investment properties. Just resting that process fixes nothing.
