I'm not going to get consideration with a non compete hanging over me - it's not like I'm a mid-6 figures exec I'm a sales rep and just not worth the hassle to these companies.

My industry recruiter says if he knew me back in December he'd have told me to refuse the severance so I could remain free.

I was about to ask how you could get laid off and still have to honor a non compete. How long is the non compete.

Most non competes don't hold up in court as it is much less if you are out of a job. Plus the company would have to come after you.

Its not a problem for him, but I'd imagine with all the canadites out there, its one less thing the companies don't want to deal with.

If they fired you, I do not see how they could enforce a non compete agreement. Unless you received some sort of compensation for signing the non compete, I also do not think that it could be enforced. If the non compete is hindering you, I would suggest that you seek legal advice.

Don't know if this will help, but I know a couple of people who got jobs via volunteering at non profits. It was a great networking venue and they made great contacts.

However, I'd argue that my MBA helps me drastically in seeing the big picture even at a sales manager position. I care way more about margin and profitability than other reps who only care about maxing out their bonuses in the short term. I see and understand the big picture, and I truly treated my territory like it was my own company.

Just an observation, based upon your comment. If you are in charge of sales and/or managing a sales department, I don't understand why you are concerned with margin and profitability - these are operational tasks.

This. And degrees don't mean shite if you cant back them up...far too many people have their MBA now. So much so that I'm not even worried about pursuing mine...

Good luck, though.

Is anybody else going through this?

I haven't got a job that uses my MBA or finance degree since I got it(the MBA) in 2005 lol.

I have the same job I had while getting my MBA, which is rather pathetic considering that's just wasted money on the student loan I used to get the MBA.

I'd like to blame it on the economy and I'm sure it's partly that, but I'd imagine at some point I gotta thinkt hat I'm just really shitty at finding jobs.

I think this (and you) are just the classic cases that people here try to warn people about when they talk about getting an MBA. It's not a ticket to paradise, you really need to know exactly what you're trying to get out of it, and 90% of the time, as much as people loathe this shite, it absolutely matters where the degree came from.
