getting an MBA. It's not a ticket to paradise, you really need to know exactly what you're trying to get out of it, and 90% of the time, as much as people loathe this shite, it absolutely matters where the degree came from.
An MBA is much more useful to someone in a technical position/industry (ie, an engineer) who aspires to upper management compared to someone in a business position to begin with and/or already has any business degree.

Also useful for riding an economic shitstorm out for a couple of years while still partying like a freshman.

Yep, lots of engineers get MBAs to make the transition into management.
Still, MBAs are useful for people with business undergrad degrees in lots of industries. As an example, the business/operational side of the healthcare industry pretty much requires it.
The issue is that people don't understand the kind of career for which an MBA will prepare them. You're going to learn how to see a company from 30,000 ft. That's useful if you're running a hospital, not if you're selling mutual funds.

It's funny cause I'm not disagreeing with you, but I've been in the healthcare industry for 8 years and my MBA hasn't helped me move up, not in the slightest.
Ah well lol.

The issue is that people don't understand that all MBAs are not created equal. An MBA where people like Jeremy Siegel or Robert Shiller or Eugene Fama are teaching you almost certainly will.

Orlando, and I work in the patient financial services department.
Don't know if it's bad luck or I'm not as good as I think i am lol, but the promotion just never comes.
I've had a few 2nd and 3rd interviews. I've never been written up or anything negative. All my productivity and things like that are near the top. My last 3 interviews I didn't get jobs for, the feedback they gave me was to not change my interview style cause it was just fine. But the promotion just never comes.
Ok, glad I could get that off my chest. Thanks for listening MT board.
ETA: Though, I did get a call this morning for yet another 2nd interview for another position in the company in the corporate business department. We shall see.

I can't imagine a non-compete has any weight in that scenario, nonetheless, that's a shame. I wouldn't expect it to take 7 months for someone with experience and an MBA to find another sales job, that's rough.
I didn't think you could force anyone into a non-compete if you got layed-off. It's one thing if you're fired or quit, but being kicked to the curb and not being allowed to work in your experienced industry seems to be a little bit outrageous. I say try to get on with whoever you want.

I wasn't going to pass up a $40k severance package. I was with that company since my LSU undergrad days.
Would have been easier to day no if it was only a month or two of severance but it was a ton more than that.

Weren't youo trying to defraud your old job last year by taking another job and collecting 2 paychecks? You said you could do this bc your territory ran itself and you really didnt work anyway? I feel bad for you for being out of work for 7 months but I think it might be due to your work ethic or lack there of... Just sayin

You would be surprised. Ask any rep that worked for UCS or Reynolds & Reynolds after Bob Brockman bought it. My non compete was for 2 years and not a company regardless of geography would touch me.

I'm pretty sure he was the one. I remember the guy coming off as a fraudster based on his posting.

Yep.

Okay so I have a sales job currently making good money. I honestly only work 5-30 hours a week (usually on the low side of that - closer to single digits) as my territory basically runs itself most of the time.
I'm interviewing for other jobs now that I've finished my MBA and I was wondering if there's any HR or payroll reason why upon accepting another job offer if I can't just hang onto my current job for an extra month or two before notifying my boss that I'm taking my "2 week notice". I am pretty sure I could get away with it so far as my boss not being aware of it, etc.

Unbelievable. Thanks, Politiceaux.
I've learned a lesson about trying to help someone I don't really know.
Now I've got to email some people and ask them to ignore the resume I sent to them and apologize to them for wasting their time. Lesson learned.....

Check the OT. This dude deserves some shite. Look at his quotes about not caring about being highly unethical.
