You literally don't have to do any of the work for ISDS 705. Only the tests count. Everything in the tests comes from the textbook, and if you have a PDF you can search the textbook during the test for the relevant phrasing on the questions.

If you have any kind of IT background, you probably don't even need to do that, but it doesn't take long to double-check stuff.

You could probably not even read the textbook at all, but I did to keep myself disciplined for my other classes.

Also, he assigned reading of some paper on hypothetical database architecture designs, which was interesting but waaaaay inappropriate for the class, which is more like "here's stuff you should know about how IT projects work."

Congrats to everyone graduating this year!

DieDaily, Jeaux, and Marco,

I noticed you guys are thinking about the Data Analytics Program, was wondering if you guys are also thinking about taking the HCAD750 Healthcare Informatics class or does it seem to be a class that might not be too beneficial for you in terms of what would be covered in the class?

Took fin tonight also. I only got 1 quantitative question and it was the easiest question possible. The others were certainly more demanding than previous tests. Required much more thought and analysis of the reading guide. Crazy how the lottery of questions is truly luck. Here’s to 9 days off

ACCT 701 is officially behind me! On to the FIN 720 final tomorrow and I will be done with AP1 and I am so ready to start AP2 to get done with the program! Never been so happy to spend $50 in my life last week when I paid my graduation fee.

Anyone tackled FIN 720 Test 4 yet?

Just took the FIN 701 final test as well. Only two quantitative questions and the rest from the guide or the test book. I was happy since the first 3 tests I had to do 5-6 quantitative questions for each and almost ran out of time. Now on to the MKT 701 test, and yes, 9 days off!!!

GSMBA16,

The FIN 720 last test was fine and should go smoothly if you've made it this far. The problems were generally a little less complex than the practice, and the true/false questions seemed less tricky than some of his other tests. I got A's on all four.

FIN701 is done. 2 easy calculations and 8 zany short answers.

Same thing as the last test. I got sent down the rabbit hole of having to search the book for the special case tangential stuff.

JW, I took a look but had no interest.
I work in finance and started out thinking I would do the Fin concerntration.
However, I like analytics and the industry is moving that way as well.
When I looked at the options 702 & 710 interested me.

Marco, I'm in the same boat as you. I feel that there is an increasing demand for job candidates to have knowledge of the tech side of finance. Data analytics also sounds very interesting to me, as I started out as an Information Systems major but ended up going with Accounting.

I was actually wondering if there is a way we could specialize in both, but honestly I'm not sure if it would be worth it because at the end of the day, it's still seen as an MBA.

Anonymous, I completely agree.
It is definitely a growing demand.
I'm not sure if we could since you need 2 courses for a specialization and we only have 3 electives.
In the end, for me it is about what will help me in practical terms.

Anyone know if Vines rounds or adjusts final grades?

I think it was in one of this weeks video chats that Vines commented about possibly adjusting grades.

It didn't sound like a definite, but it sounds like he at least looks at where the clusters of grades fall and tries to letter grade appropriately.

Marco, didn't think about that. I'll have to look into it.

But yeah, I think you can't go wrong with either route. Finance has always been a standard specialization, whereas Data Analytics is fairly new but with the way technology is developing and how much companies rely on finance systems, I'm sure more people will start going that route. It's tough to choose, though.

I actually switched my specialization from finance to data analytics. I'm an auditor in public accounting and this industry is definitely moving that way as well.

Just finished the ACC701 final! It wasn't as bad as I thought, but at the same time I think I prepared myself a lot better than the midterm. Ended up finishing with about 35 minutes to review surprisingly. Just have to wait on seeing my actual grade, now.

JW,

What compelled you to make the change, and is the difference just in terms of the curriculum?

Let me say this is an incredible thread, and I read the entire thread before signing up to the forum.

Much thanks to the forefathers of this thread who provided substantive background on this program which has enabled individuals like myself to look more into it to see if it can ultimately help us reach our goals.

I would definitely like to hear more from individuals who have finished the program and how it has helped them in their respective careers.

Again, thanks to everyone for their contributions.
