I am finishing up as well - well hopefully, still waiting on MADM 715 project grade - and I am compelled to share some insight to the new folks / people still going through.
To
add to what Robbie stated, I too am graduating this May. I do agree with all that was already mentioned so I add where we had some differences for the benefit of those starting out:

[quote]MADM 701 w/ Dr. Williams - Very time consuming, tests were difficult but if you do well on the writing portion you should do well in the course.

I took 701 with Knotts and the class was very manageable, the tests were proctored using proctorio. Read the Powerpoints and make notes and you should be fine.

quote:

ISDS 705 w/ Dr. Lin - Easiest course in the program. I encourage everyone to learn a little bit in the course even though you really just have to ctrl F the pdf for tests to pass with a 100. Pair with MKT 701 or a math course you think you will spend a lot of time on.

Ditto, I paired it with Meeks' 760 and was a very easy pairing.

quote:

ACCT 701 w/ Dr. Ambrosio - Great class/professor. Very understanding professor that will take the time to help you with any questions. You will spend some time learning accounting concepts if they are new to you but overall relatively easy course.
Agree, learned a lot and he went an extra mile to help the class.

quote:

MADM 751 w/ Dr. Meeks - One of my favorite courses and favorite professor. This class focuses on understanding entrepreneurship and your understanding/conceptualization of the material. You work in groups so you are able to connect with other MBA students in the program, which is great. Does take some time for reading the material but I would pair it with a math course you are more comfortable with.

Did not take.

quote:

ECON 705 w/ Dr. Shaughnessy - Very difficult course content wise for me. However, Dr. Shaughnessy is awesome and really helps out. He meets on Zoom and answers things in a way that helps you understand. I paired this with MADM 752 and it was a decent pairing.
Just finished it and it was brutal. Needed one more point to get an A.

quote:

MADM 752 w/ Dr. Knotts - I personally did not like this course and it is an elective so choose wisely. We had academic coaches in this course so you had to understand what they wanted in the papers to get a decent grade. The tests were pretty difficult if I remember correctly ie. taking information from the reading and asked the question in a way to confuse you.

Did not take.

quote:

FIN 701 w/ Dr. Vines - As you have probably read, Dr. Vines is a great professor. The information you learn is difficult if you do not have a finance background. However, if you read the material, can say it in your own words and have a decent grasp of the math, you will do great. Attend his Zoom sessions and ask as many questions as you can think of because he will answer them until you understand. I paired this with MKT 701 which made it a very long 7 weeks.

Paired it with MKT 701 and was a great pair.

quote:

MKT 701 w/ Dr. James- Well, I was not a fan. Insane amount of reading in my opinion. I did very poorly on the exams because there was so much reading. There is a lot of writing in this course as well - I think my final paper was about 35 pages. This class will take all of your time. If you have to pair it, do so with ISDS 705 or an easier course.

Took it with Darrat and was an easy A. Find any book from philip kotler on marketing management and you should be fine. That is where his tests were coming from. No project that I remember and tests were not proctored.

quote:

MADM 760 w/ Dr. Meeks - Again, Dr. Meeks is a stellar professor. There is a lot of reading and writing but it focuses more on making sure you can conceptualize the material versus being tested on the material in exams. You work with teams which has been a great experience. There is a final paper - about 2000 words. I often did more than this in the weekly writing questions. If you read and put the effort in, you will do fine. He awards extra points if you go above and beyond as well.

A lot of work but very fair grading. One of the best classes in the program. He grades everything personally.

quote:

MADM 715 w/ Dr. Wren - My least favorite course in the program. Insane amount of weekly reading - sometimes over 300 pages. There were many grammatical errors in the readings as well. The weekly tests were worth about 700 points of your final grade (out of about 1245) so you really had to put most of your time into reading and trying to guess what you will be tested on. The project fiasco was a total mess in my opinion. We were required to have a conclusion for our research in the 3rd week I believe? We turned in our projects 2 weeks ago and there are many still without a grade. I would not recommend this course because it is an elective - unless you absolutely have to. Many people earned their first C in this course.
I took this class with Felice Williams and was an easy A, my only complain was that the weekly posts were graded by assistants who were very inconsistent. Other than that, not too bad.

All in all I am happy that I went through. Learned a lot and made the honor society and was able to finish in 5 terms. I also recommend the program to friends and family, even with the new textbook policy. This program is by far the best value AACSB MBA program in the country!

Best of luck to all of you starting this journey. There will be some long nights and frustrating moments, but it will be all worth it.

Thoughts on taking ACCT 701 and FIN 701 together?

If you have good grasp of Financial and Managerial accounting as well as financial management, are comfortable with the formulas, etc, go for it. If any of these are new concepts for you, I suggest you don't as they will take you longer than 30 hrs/wk to master. ACCT is tough if this is your first encounter with the concepts. I took ACCT 701 with two other classes and barely got a B. I took FIN701 (Vines) with MKT 701 (Darrat) and got A's on both.

FIN 701-Not proctored
ACCT 701-Only the final is proctorU proctored.
Hope that helps.

Hi guys, last month I was contacted and asked if I'd be willing to be interviewed about my LSUS MBA experience.
I'm a huge fan and now proud Alum of our school so was happy to do it. A couple days ago the article went live on LSUS's site.

Here's a LINK to it.

Pretty cool Socal! I am finishing this May and was thinking about going to the graduation but decided against it. Reading your article makes me change my mind and attend.

Sorry that I have not been able to post lately. I am taking my last class this term, ECON 705 where I am presently carrying a high B. Someone asked if anyone has taken three classes. I did that last term and even though it was tough and it almost got me a C in ACCT701, I was able to survive with two A's and a B. I think that a lot of the insight information posted in the first few pages of this page remains very reliable right now. My suggestion is to take the courses from known commodities. If that class is full, pass. New professors like Kungu and Darrat were/are excellent choices. White, Felice Williams, etc can be challenging so why risk it?

In closing, although I am happy to graduate on May 13th, I am also worn out and on fumes. Maybe later I will be able to reflect on the meaning of this degree, as of now I am too tired to celebrate.

Best of luck to those of you starting out. Stay the course and persist, you will be just fine.

I have a pdf copy of PTW from when I took it. Let me know where to send it...

As others have commented, I also want to see LSUS's reputation stay strong. While I believe the school had the best intentions -- saving students money on textbooks -- I think it's backfiring. Sharing our concerns with professors and administration will hopefully drive them to reconsider this policy.

I think that having been quoted in that previous post, some of the same things then remain today. My issue is with these teacher assistants graduated from Phoenix, Capella, and other for-profit schools that are obviously not AACSB grading our papers as if they have a clue. The text books issue needs to get corrected moving forward. These books are filled with misspelling errors and bad content. The professors are top notch but they could use help is writing test questions. MADM 701 questions are "Which of these choices is not..." which has been proven to be the wrong way to frame a question when testing for knowledge. The learning objectives from these books do not match the module LOs and so on. Very frustrating. A lot of work to keep a 4.0 gpa in my opinion. I am so ready to be done...

DieDaily, what is the link to the MADM 701/ACCT701 study group? I can't seem to find it.

Thanks!

The entire graduation experience today was amazing and well worth the trip to Shreveport. It was wonderful to meet our professors in person. I was able to chat with Dr. Williams. Dr. Vines, Dr Meeks, Dr. Darrat, and Dr. Shaughnessy.

Cool to attend a morning breakfast reception for the Online MBA students and then get a short tour of the campus.

The service itself in the CenturyLink Arena was fun. I highly recommend attending graduation if at all possible. It's a great way to reward yourself for all the hard work.

You know socal77, after reading your post and SBREES I might just make plans to attend now. After all the long nights of postings, papers and Zoom sessions, I think it is a must to reward ourselves. Thanks for the details and best of luck to you both and all others who graduated this term!

To echo what Jeaux Cool said, congratulations to all who graduated and endured the long hours in order to do so. I will hopefully be there at the end of Spring AP2 as I am taking three classes Spring AP1 and one (ECON 705) in Spring AP2 to finish. As for elective, I am taking MADM 715 for the Human Resources Concentration. Was going to extend my time and take either two Enterprise electives or the two Project Management electives, in the end, I am just dying to finish.

Weekly Quizzes/Self-Assessments/Assessments open 12:01AM Monday I believe. They close 11:59PM Sunday night. You have the full week to complete all weekly work.

Great, that means that I might just be able to finish in Spring AP2. Thanks!

But are these on a given time window for a specific day or can these quizzes be taken from Friday to Sunday for example?

A question on Econ 705. I am taking it Spring AP2 and during the first week of class I will he heading to China for 9 days. Does anyone know what the test schedule is for the first two weeks of this class? The term runs from Mar 12-Apr 26 and my trip is from the 17-25 March. Any help will be greatly appreciated as that is my last class to finish the program.

I took MKT 701 with Fin 701 and was definitely doable. I am paiting 760 with ISDS 705 and is also very doable. By doable I mean get As in both classes with some work. I think that MKT 701 depends a lot on the professor as I had Darrat not James.

Any insights on this pairing for next term? I can finish out the program if I take MKT 701 and FIN 701 together next term. FIN would be with Vines, and I've read great things about him. MKT 701 is with James, and I've read that one can be challenging.

Any thoughts? Words of encouragement? Am I nuts?

Vantix,

I did those two last term and got two A's. It is very doable but requires effort as with some of the others. You can read about Vines' methods here and for MKT 701 I had Dr. Darrat and he was very lenient with the scoring, so it was an easy A. You should do fine if you have done well with the others. My .02 cents.

Fall AP1: MADM 701

From my experience on 760 your Summer AP2 can be challenging. Lots of work in 760. Not hard work, just busy work. Depending on who you get for 702 you can be in for some long days...

I am contemplating taking MADM 701 with MKT 701 in Spring AP1. From what I've researched on this forum, MADM 701 doesn't seem to be too bad, but MKT 701 is the unknown for me.

Any feedback on the structure of the MKT 701 course? I need to gage if this is crazy or actually feasible.

MADM 701 is a lot of busy work and the work is graded by assistants that are very inconsistent in their grading. MKT-701 with Dr. Darrat was different from Dr. Karen from what I can tell. The 3 quizzes were 25 questions each, and were difficult because they were based on the power-points and the questions did not match most of the content. As result, the professor gave a lot of extra points to compensate. There were 10 forum postings and 4 case studies of 50 points each. It was not too bad, in the end and I ended up with over 100% due to the extra points. My session was confusing because it was the first session using "Free" textbook materials. Neither class is hard at all, just busy work, lots of postings.
